April 13

The Michigan Theatre is hosting a presentation of  the film “13th” presented by the NAACP.  An in-depth look at the prison system in the United States and how it reveals the nation’s history of racial inequality. ….. about 200,000 prisoners; today, the prison population is more than 2 million. The documentary touches on chattel slavery; D. W. Griffith’s film “The Birth of a Nation”; Emmett Till; the civil rights movement; the Civil Rights Act of 1964; Richard M. Nixon; and Ronald Reagan’s declaration of the war on drugs and much more.  The film is followed by a panel discussion with community leaders titled, “What’s Next?”  This event is free to the public.

Spring Soccer Registration Deadline.  Come on Springtime! Jackson District Library Concord Branch Opera House Dedication and Open House.  Join us to celebrate to newly renovated Concord Opera House.  This event will include:  History of the Concord Opera House,  Dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony in memory of Margaret and Beryl Luttenton.  Music provided by the Jackson Symphony Orchestra String Trio and Refreshments.  All ages welcome!  7 PM to 8:30 PM.

Bonneau Pancake Breakfast.  8 to 11 AM at St. Mary’s Church, on the corner of Wesley and Mechanic.  Silent Auction Items and 50/50 Raffle.  Suggested donation is $5/adult and $3/child. All proceeds go to benefit the Bonneau Memorial Child Advocacy Fund in honor of Officer James Bonneau.

Paws and Claws Expo. American One Event Center & Fairgrounds.  10am – 2pm.  In addition to the amazing vendors to shop, there will be face painting, a 50-50 raffle, food for purchase, and Dog Trick Show – 11 am, Dog Training Demo – 11:30 am, Doggie Fashion Show – 12 pm.

Music on Tap Series at Weatherwax Hall.  Weatherwax Hall favorite Brian Dunne returns to The Wax stage, this time as a headliner. Brian’s new record is entitled Bug Fixes & Performance Improvements and it was released in the summer of 2017 as the follow up to his 2015 release, “Songs From The Hive”. Having opened shows at The Wax for Will Hoge and Daniel Champagne, Brian left the audience wanting more and he was widely requested to be given a show as a headliner and we are thrilled that it is going to happen. Rend Collective Concert.  We’re happy to have Rend Collective here in Spring Arbor while they’re on “The Good News Tour!” This Northern Irish Christian Band shares stories through music while preaching the Gospel. Former Elevation artist Mack Brock will be the opening act.  Tickets will start at $22.95. Tickets for groups of 10 or more will be $18.95. Chris Perondi’s Stunt Dog Experience.  This cast of performers and dogs will delight audiences of all ages, with high-energy excitement from beginning to end. During the Stunt Dog Experience, you will witness some of the most incredible stunts and behaviors ever performed by dogs. With amazing tricks, big air stunts, comedy antics, dancing dogs, and athletic feats, it is the most entertaining show of its kind!  You will meet a cast of professional performers along with over a dozen talented pups who have been rescued from pounds and shelters across the country. Tickets: $15.  Special ticket pricing: $10 tickets available for students & children 12 yrs. and under. Childrenz Challenge Spring Hunt.  An afternoon of fun with NW Community Schools and the Childrenz Challenge. Primal Pizza, Petey’s Donuts, & Junkyard Dog will be on site. Face-Painting by Masquerades by Michelle and PRO DJS will be playing all the hottest hits.
