Groundbreaking for Jackson East Side Housing Developments. 10 AM. A groundbreaking event is planned to kick off several new housing efforts that are set to transform a neighborhood on Jackson’s east side. The groundbreaking for developments in the Health District is happening Tuesday, Nov. 12, 10 a.m. at a vacant lot located at the corner of N. Van Dorn and Detroit streets. The vacant lot is one of 32 parcels that will soon receive new homes from private and public investors. A total of 94 new housing units are planned in the Health District, which is a neighborhood along E. Michigan Avenue between Downtown Jackson and Henry Ford Jackson Hospital. The majority of the new housing will be single-family homes, but apartments are also part of the east side housing boom. The groundbreaking event will celebrate the upcoming renovation of the former Allen Elementary School on E. Pearl Street. Jackson residents are invited to attend the groundbreaking, which will feature remarks from local officials and developers. The vacant lot where the event is happening is located at 303 N. Van Dorn St. Street parking is available on nearby streets.
