Jackson College announces Ballet Folclórico Nacional de Mexico de Silvia Lozano, Spreading the artistry of Mexican culture through dance, will be presented at Potter Center Friday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m.

The ballet celebrates its 60 anniversary in 2020, continuing the legacy of Mexico’s leading researchers and practitioners of folklore, dance, music and costumes. Dancers showcase the country’s finest music and dance, pulsating with hypnotic rhythms and swirling colors. Over its long career, the Ballet Folclórico Nacional De Mexico has performed in more than 40 countries and on five continents, receiving numerous awards and prizes and being designated an Ambassador of Mexican Culture. In addition to its international tours, the Ballet Folclórico Nacional De Mexico maintains residences in Mexico City and Cancun.

General director and choreographer Sylvia Lozano founded the first company in 1960. Lozano is one of the most distinguished artists recognized internally as a promoter of authentic Mexican culture. Fascinated by dance as a child, she went on to study at the Mexican Academy of Dance, graduating in contemporary dance and classical ballet. At the Mexican Academy of Dance, she graduated as a Mexican folk dancer. She has been dedicated to preserving originality and authenticity, with her greatest wish being to show as many people around the world the beauty of music, dance, costumes and Mexican traditions.
