Brayden Lape awaits the results Tuesday Night on The Voice.

( December 13, 2022 11.02 PM) The Tuesday, December 13, 2022, episode of NBC’s “The Voice” revealed the winner of season 22 of the competition reality show is Bryce Leatherwood.

Brayden Lape’s name was announced first by host Carson Daly as the elimination began.

Viewers and contestants had to wait until the very last minute of the two-hour broadcast to learn who was crowned champion.  The winner will receive $100,000 and a recording contract with Universal Music Group.

This season of The Voice was of particular interest to the greater Jackson County area as Grass Lake native and resident Brayden Lape performed excellently all season to make it all the way to the Grand Finale.

Brayden has been one of the most popular contestants;  social media is filled with Brayden Lape fan notes, photos and videos posted throughout the season.  Early in the fall, Brayden performed at a handful of events in Grass Lake and Jackson as his popularity rose.  Brayden began singing just 2 years ago, and his first-ever public performance was at Grand River Brewery in Jackson just last year.

Blake and Brayden perform Tuesday night.

The star-studded night was filled with skits, recaps and performances by One Republic, Adam Lambert,  Kelly Clarkson, Kane Brown, Breland, and last season’s winners, Girl Named Tom.

Each of the finalists sang one last song, a duet with their coach.  Brayden Lape and Blake Shelton performed “Chasin’ That Neon Rainbow” by Alan Jackson.  In video segments, Blake and Brayden joked about the Grass Lake football team’s haircuts and Brayden read a love letter to his hometown of Grass Lake.

In last night’s part 1, Brayden sang two songs,  “Humble and Kind” by Tim McGraw and  Corey Kent’s “Wild As Her”.  Last night, and throughout the live telecasts, fans cast votes online and via an app for their favorite contestant.

Brayden is a 16 year old sophomore at Grass Lake High School.  This fall, after the Voice air schedule began on September 19, Brayden continued school and played on the varsity football team as quarterback for the Warriors.

The family is expected to announce future plans for Brayden, and the community has been discussing celebration plans.
