Brooklyn Chamber Honors Darby Ready Mix And BPI’s Lisa Bascom At Annual Awards Event

The Brooklyn-Irish Hills Chamber of Commerce honored businesses and community members at the 39th Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner this week.   Darby Ready Mix was named the 2019 Business of the Year and Lisa Bascom, President of Brooklyn Products International, was chosen for the 2019 Citizen of the Year honor. 

The Board of Directors presented awards and anniversary certificates to 35 members.  Included in the awards were 9 Spruce Awards presented to: Adrian College Boathouse, Brooklyn Bridal & Prom, The Corner Cottage, Freshcorn Building, Irish Hills Golf Course, The Irish Hills Center, Irish Hills Wedding Barn, Pirates Port to Port Adventure Golf and Skydive Tecumseh.  Spruce Awards are presented to businesses and organizations for improvements made to their facilities in the past year.

The Taste of the Irish Hills People’s Choice went to The Greenleaf Mansion Bed & Breakfast.  Ambassador of the Year went to Renee Smith of Hideaway Cove Log Cabins.  The Emerald Award—Gem of the Community was awarded to The Brooklyn Community Chest.  Region 2 Area Agency on Aging received the Heart of the Community honor.

At the meeting held March 21 at the Clark Lake Golf Course, new Directors were installed.  Dan Ross (TransPharm Preclinical Solutions), Angela Jeffrey (Flagstar Bank), Bart Vermilya (Sacred Touch Healing Art Center) and Jenifer Scanlon (The Brokerage House) were accepted by the members to a 3-year term on the board of directors. 

“I am honored to be working with the Irish Hills business community and some amazing business minds,” states Cindy Hubbell, President/CEO of the Brooklyn-Irish Hills Chamber of Commerce.  “The awards dinner honors those community members who have stood out for their involvement, their charity, pride, longevity and their passion.  We honored some very deserving recipients.”

Presenters included Congressman Tim Walberg and the 2018-2019 Brooklyn-Irish Hills Board of Directors: Annette Roesch (Irish Hills Community Legacy), Justin Gifford (Visit Lenawee), Bill Fetters (Woodstock Wine & Cheese), Angela Jeffrey (Flagstar Bank), Michelle Reed (Walton Reed Wealth Management Partners),  Jim Decker (Decker & Sons Insurance),  Stephanie Updike (Adrian College), Becky Spencer (YMCA Storer Camps), Dan Ross (TransPharm Preclinical Solutions) and Mark Cornell (Clark Lake Golf Course).
