Jackson County Cumulative Report: 8,062 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 182 Deaths

(January 9, 2021 12:21 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12 PM today, there are 8,062 positive cases (cumulative), and 182 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 37 new cases and 8 new deaths since yesterday’s report.  Cumulative recovered, as of January 9, 2020:  6,169** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received. The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 4:00 PM December 30, there are 4,130 confirmed positive cases at Jackson facilities and 508 confirmed positive staff cases.  MDOC positive case numbers are cumulative. As of 7 AM January 5, there 47 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19. Note:  Jackson County will post COVID-19 data daily by mid-afternoon, Monday-Saturday, keeping with the schedule established by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). The cumulative numbers posted on Monday will include the data from Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received.  Epicurve data and Township maps are also posted on Mondays by 3:30 PM. *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan…

MHSAA Posts List of Playoff Broadcast Streams

(January 8, 2020 4:04 PM) The list of links to live-streamed broadcasts of this weekend’s 11 and 8-Player Football Playoff games has been posted to the Michigan High School Athletic Association website and will be updated to include not only the rest of this weekend’s games and next weekend’s 11-Player Semifinals but also next week’s girls volleyball and girls swimming & diving events as those broadcasts become finalized. Find the list of broadcasts at https://www.mhsaa.com/tv. It is anticipated that all 33 football games Saturday will be streamed live. All 16 Volleyball Quarterfinals also are expected to be streamed live. The Volleyball Semifinals and Finals and Lower Peninsula Girls Swimming & Diving Finals during the weekend of Jan. 14-16 will be broadcast on MHSAA.tv (http://www.mhsaa.tv). Football Finals in both 8-player on Jan. 16 and 11-player Jan. 22-23 will be broadcast by FOX Sports Detroit (with schedule of streaming and cable to be announced). Michigan Reports 3,625 Coronavirus Cases Today, State Total Now 516,376

(January 8, 2021 3:13 PM) Michigan reported 3,625 coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 516,376. Michigan is reporting 38 COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 13,132. State Cumulative Total of Recovered COVID-19 Cases (as of 12/30/2020): 363,611. This information is updated Monday through Saturday at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.  Monday reports include Sunday data.

Governor Whitmer Announces Goal to Return to In Person Learning by March 1

(January 8, 2020 1:34 PM) Governor Gretchen Whitmer today announced new guidance for schools today to keep students, staff and communities safe during the COVID-19 pandemic while providing the in-person instruction that is crucial to learning and development.  The state’s goal is to have all Michigan school districts offer an in-person learning option for students no later than March 1, and earlier if possible.  Michigan Department of Health and Human Services' guidance emphasizes use of scientifically proven methods of reducing the risk of COVID-19 spread, include wearing masks, ventilation improvements, frequent hand washing and social distancing.  Vaccination of teachers and other school staff will begin by Jan. 11 due to educators’ roles as essential frontline workers.   “MDHHS will continue to do what it takes to save lives and limit the spread of COVID-19,” said Director Robert Gordon. “At the same time, in-person instruction is critical for the current and the future well-being of children, especially young learners and students who are disadvantaged. PPP for Small Businesses to Restart on Monday

(January 8, 2020 1:20 PM) The U.S. Small Business Administration and the Treasury Department, announced today that the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) will re-open the week of January 11 for new borrowers and certain existing PPP borrowers. To promote access to capital, initially only community financial institutions will be able to make First Draw PPP Loans on Monday, January 11 and Second Draw PPP Loans on Wednesday, January 13.  The PPP will open to all participating lenders shortly thereafter. Updated PPP guidance outlining Program changes to enhance its effectiveness and accessibility was released on January 6 in accordance with the Economic Aid to Hard-Hit Small Businesses, Non-Profits, and Venues Act. This round of the PPP continues to prioritize millions of Americans employed by small businesses by authorizing up to $284 billion toward job retention and certain other expenses through March 31, 2021, and by allowing certain existing PPP borrowers to apply for a Second Draw PPP Loan. “The Paycheck Protection Program has successfully provided 5.2 million loans worth $525 billion to America’s small businesses, supporting more than 51 million jobs,” said Secretary Steven T. JCHD: Vaccine Not Yet Available for Next Phase

(January 8, 2021 11:14 AM) The Jackson County Health Department has released a statement following Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s Wednesday announcement opening up vaccinations to the next phase (1B, 1C) of eligible Michigan residents.  The department says it does not have a supply of vaccine to accommodate this next phase. The state announced on Wednesday it would allow individuals ages 65-74 in Phase 1C to be eligible for the vaccination along with teachers, police officers and people over age 75 who are in Phase 1B of the state's four-phase vaccination prioritization plan. The first phase of mass inoculations, 1A,  is limited to health care workers, paid or unpaid, including those who do not have direct contact with patients, as well as residents of long-term care facilities. In her announcement, the Governor said all counties may begin vaccinating residents over age 65 and urged residents to visit Michigan.gov/COVIDVaccine to find local health departments and other local vaccine clinics near them that are ready to book appointments.  However, as of Friday morning, only one health department (Schoolcraft County) in Michigan is listed as currently booking appointments.  Only Ingham County and LMAS District (Luce, Mackinac, Alger and Schoolcraft Counties) are listed on the vaccine…

Michigan is reporting 176* COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 13,094. *The deaths announced today includes 138 deaths identified during a Vital Records review. Michigan Reports Vaccination Rate Triples Over Past Week

(January 6, 2020 8:45 PM) Michigan hospitals, local health departments and Federally Qualified Health Centers are increasing the pace of vaccinations in the state, administering three times the vaccine last week compared to the number of doses administered the first week. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tracker data, Michigan is 11th in the nation for the number of first doses administered to date (124,689) behind Texas, California, Florida, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Tennessee, New Jersey and North Carolina. Michigan’s COVID-19 Vaccine Dashboard currently shows 152,511 doses administered due to a lag between when CDC posts data and the state updates its information.  “The more people that are vaccinated, the less spread we will have, the fewer deaths and the quicker we can get back to a sense of normalcy,” said Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, chief medical executive and chief deputy for health at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. “With a new variant of the virus in the United States, one that may be easier to spread than the current variant, there is more urgency than ever to vaccinate as many people as possible, as quickly as possible, with the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine.”…
