By Jeff Steers JTV Sports Grass Lake High School wrestler Wesley Edie wrote in his notebook every day, “2023, Division 4 state champ at 120 pounds.” On Saturday it came true. Edie earned a 10-9 come-from-behind win over Daven Lockwood of New Lothrop in the 120-pound final earning the state title. He was one of two Jackson County wrestlers who earned state titles. Northwest wrestler Adam Haselius won a second state title with a 5-1 win at 215 pounds in Division 2. He finishes the season with a perfect 50-0 record and 95 consecutive wins in high school wrestling. Edie didn’t have the luxury of a full team around him like Haselius, but the senior made the best of it. “We had a tough 125 pounder on our team, and I wrestled with our 144 pounder,” Edie said. “I also worked with some Napoleon wrestlers.” Edie earned three wins on Friday advancing to the final on Saturday. He wore a throwback uniform at least 20 years old in the final. “I was confident going into the match today,” Edie said. Girls District Basketball Finals Grass Lake 62, East Jackson 33: Kate Starkey scored 29 points leading the Warriors to the district title. Grass Lake will face Pewamo-Westphalia or Ovid-Elsie in the regional semifinal Tuesday at Dansville High School, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Springport 45, Stockbridge 41: The Spartans had a big second quarter with 20 points after a slow start. Maddux Overweg sored 13 points and dished seven assists and Chloey Speer and Brenna Crittenden each scored 10 points for SHS. The Spartans will play the winner of Laingsburg/Dansville in the regional semifinal Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m. at Dansville High School. Boys Bowling Team State Finals Division 3 at JAX 60: Napoleon High School qualified fourth by rolling 3,251 pins for eight Baker games and two individual games. The Pirates lost to Ogema Heights in the opening round 1,247 – 1,193 at JAX 60 in Jackson. Division 4 at M-66 Bowl: Grass Lake High School qualified second but ran the table to win another state title in bowling at M-66 Bowl in Battle Creek.
