Girls District Basketball Division 1 at Dexter Jackson 47, Ann Arbor Skyline 45: The Vikings are riding a three-game winning streak heading into the Division 1 district semifinal Wednesday at Dexter. Jackson (5-16) faces Dexter (15-7) in the semifinal at DHS beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Division 3 at Springport Lumen Christi 49, East Jackson 44: The Trojans led by double digits at halftime but Lumen Christi outscored EJHS 19-6 in the third quarter. East Jackson finishes the season with a 5-17 record while the Titans advance to the district semifinal with an 18-5 record. LCCHS faces Springport (18-3) in the Division 3 district semifinal Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at SHS.  Hanover-Horton 42, Napoleon 25: The Comets improved to 13-9 on the season with the Division 3 district win over Napoleon at Springport High School Monday night. The Pirates finished the season with a 5-16 record. The Comets face Michigan Center (19-3) in the other Division 3 district semifinal beginning at approximately 7 p.m. at SHS. Morgan Kuhl finished with 19 points and Maggie Soper finished with six points and five steals for the Comets. Caden Oliver College Athletic Events Baseball Jackson College 12, Dakota County 7: Grant Teschendorf finished with one hit and two RBIs and Caden Oliver finished with a pair of hits for Jackson College. Miller Makes Big Jump To State Championship Wrestling Finals

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (March 3, 2024 7:30 AM ET) Using a tape measure it is only about six feet from seventh to second place on the Michigan High School Athletic Association wrestling podium. Northwest High School sophomore Jeffrey Miller made the leap from seventh a year ago to second in wrestling. He used a combination of weightroom training and added strength to finish 47-3 and second in the state in 2024 at 144 pounds. Last year he finished seventh in Division 2 at 126 pounds – earning all-state honors as a freshman. He was the first freshman earning all-state honors for the Mounties in 15 seasons.  “I just worked in the weightroom and in the wrestling room with my teammates,” Miller said. “My workouts are cardio based with heavy days and multiple lifting days for endurance.” It certainly worked as Miller earned 10 more wins this season and gained nearly 25 more pounds – mostly muscle. He is part of a young Mountie wrestling team that is just going to get better in the coming years. “We are going to have to rely on a lot of freshmen and sophomores next year,” Miller said. “We thought this year…

Wrestling Ten Jackson County wrestlers earned all-state medals Saturday afternoon finishing in the top eight of his/her weight classes. Here are the results from the different divisions and girls’ brackets.  D-2 Jeff Miller Northwest of Northwest finished second at 144 pounds at Ford Field Saturday afternoon D-3 Logan Hartman of Napoleon finished eighth at 120 pounds and finished the season with a 37-13 overall record; Carson Warner of Napoleon finished sixth at 157 pounds with a 35-15 record for the season; Mason Roth of Napoleon battled back for third place at 175 pound scoring 27 wins this season;  Brady Warner of Napoleon placed fourth at 190 pounds finishing the season with a 41-8 record; and Jack Reid of Grass Lake placed eighth at 190 pounds finishing the season with a 42-10 record.   D-4 David Fielder of Hanover-Horton was third at 126 pounds earning his 50th win of the season; Collin Thompson of Concord finished fourth at 138 pounds and finished the season with 37 wins; and Clayton Clark of East Jackson placed fourth at 157 pounds and finished with 28 wins this season.  Girls Sienna Tovar of Jackson placed third at 145 pounds earning a pin in her final…
