Stuard headed back to U.S. Golf Open Napoleon High School graduate Brian Stuard is headed back to the U.S. Golf Open. Stuard tied for first at the U.S. Open qualifier on Monday at Springfield Country Club, near Springfield, Ohio. The Jackson native finished with rounds of 68 and 65 on the par 70 golf course.  He tied Matthys Daffue of South Africa for medalist honors at 133. Eight of the 77 players qualified for the U.S. Open – to be held June 16-19 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. Stuard is in this week’s PGA Tour event, the RBC Canadian Open. He is currently 131st on the FedEx Cup Series points list. The top 125 on the points list earn playing privileges for the 2022-2023 season at the end of the season in August.   On Deck for June 7, 2022 Soccer regional Division 3 Columbia Central (13-3-3) at Otsego (13-4-1) 5:30 p.m.

First Round Complete at Jackson City Golf Championship

(June 5, 2022 9:23 PM) The first round of the Jackson City Golf Championship is over and the field is down to 16 players. The tournament is being held at the County Club of Jackson. The format is match play -  where each hole is worth a point, and whoever wins the most points wins the match based on holes remaining. For instance, Cannon Risner was seven holes ahead of Matt Brown in their match today with only five holes remaining to close out the match.  Second-round matches will be played Tuesday or Wednesday with Cannon Risner facing Trevor Raymond; Colin O’Connell going against Brogan Brockie; Zach DeFrain will face Conor Spencer; Brad McEldowney will face Jamie Clark; medalist Nick Reynolds will go against Bret Valkuchak; Mike Kulka will face Joey Badall; Mike Raymond will go against Mike Boldt; and Tom Fleming will tee it up against Pete Walz.  Cannon Risner d. JTV Sports Quick Focus: Trefry Finishes Second in State at Pole Vault

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (June 6, 2022 10:56 AM) After years of tumbling all over the area in gymnastics, Michigan Center High School athlete Elle Trefry was ready for a new challenge.  Then she found the pole vault. Trefry said it was a sport that “showed off your strength.” She flashed it on Saturday finishing second in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 state finals. Trefry finished second in the event with a leap of 10 feet, 6 inches. “I had a hard week of practice with shin and ankle injuries,” Trefry said. “I was also (recently) out for a week.” The MCHS athlete must love something about sports that challenge physical toughness. She participated in gymnastics for 11 years. “Gymnastics in really tough on the body,” Trefry said. “There are a lot of injuries.” Trefry started the sport of pole vaulting in seventh grade because it was different that gymnastics. But some of the power moves were still the same. She did well as a freshman, endured the COVID year of 2020, finished fifth in the state a year ago, and finished runner-up to the defending champion from Division 2 (whose school was moved down to…

Reynolds Leads Qualifying for Jackson City Golf Championship

(June 5, 2022 9:38 AM) Nick Reynolds led the qualifying for the Jackson City Golf Championship at the Country Club of Jackson on Saturday. Reynolds finished with a 4-under-par 68 to lead the field. Mike Raymond was also 3-under par in the qualifying round. Zach DeFrain shot an even-par 72, Cannon Risner and Brad McEldowney finished with 73s, and Tom Fleming shot an 84.
