Thirty One Jackson County Wrestlers Qualify for State Finals
By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (February 19, 2022 9:41 PM) There were plenty of medals handed out to Jackson County wrestlers during the Michigan High School Athletic Association regional individual tournaments. A total of 31 Jackson County wrestlers will move on in the wrestling state tournament looking to finish on top of the podium in two weeks. Wrestlers had to finish in the top four in their respective weight classes to move on in the tournament. The finals will be held March 4, 5 at Ford Field in Detroit. Here are the qualifiers, school, weight class, and order of finish at the various regional wrestling tournaments. MHSAA Individual Regional Tournaments Division 1 at Lowell: Jaylon Riggins of Jackson was the only one of six Vikings to advance to the state meet. Riggins – who finished third at the state meet a year ago – earned a regional championship at 160 pounds during the individual meet at Lowell High School. Division 2 at Niles: Four wrestlers from Northwest and three from Western advanced to the state meet during the D-2 regional individual tournament at Niles.
