Soccer Jackson 5, Northwest 2: Jackson and Northwest high schools concluded a game from Sept. 7 stopped due to bad weather. Jackson led 1-0 in the game midway through the first half when it was stopped. Brayon Tanner scored for Jackson on a free kick at the 1:38 mark giving the Vikings a 2-0 halftime lead on Monday night. Tanner scored again 30 seconds into the second half giving Jackson a 3-0 lead. But the Mounties battled back with goals by Tyler Richard and Landon Rambadt cutting the lead to 3-2. It didn’t take the Vikings long to get the upper hand again with a goal by Dylan Marshallsay 30 seconds after the Mounties’ goal. Tanner completed his hat trick with a goal at the 6:41 mark for Jackson (5-11-1). Northwest is 5-10-1 heading into district soccer action this week. Ionia 6, Jackson Christian 0

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (October 4, 2021 4:56 PM) It was a good day for Jackson County girls’ golf teams at regional meets on Monday. Three teams and two individuals will be heading to the Michigan High School Athletic Association state golf finals Oct. 15, 16, at various courses. Michigan Center High School golfer Kamryn Shannon shot a 1-under-par 71 at the Hills of Lenawee Golf Club in Adrian. Here is a rundown of the various regional competitions held on Monday. Several Jackson County schools will be playing at Cascades Golf Course on Wednesday at the Division 4 regional. Division 4 at Hills of Lenawee Golf Club: Kamryn Shannon of Michigan Center shot a 1-under-par 71 to lead the Cardinals to a second-place finish at the Division 4 regional in Adrian. Lenawee Christian won the event with 378, MCHS shot 417, and Hanover-Horton took the third and final spot with 430. Logan Bentley of Columbia Central is an individual qualifier shooting an 86 on Monday. She will be joined by Kyleigh Ramos (96) of Clinton and Annika Berg (98) of Onsted. By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (October 1, 2021 1:55 PM) Without a lot of pomp and circumstance, Jackson Public School opened its new 499-seat natatorium for competition on Thursday, Sept. 30. Jackson easily defeated Ypsilanti Community 140-29 in the opening Southeastern Conference event. The pool is part of a $15.5 million project that includes a redesigned entryway into the building for indoor sporting events and enhanced security. Voters passed a nearly $87 million bond proposal in 2018 to fund the new aquatic center and enhancements to all buildings at JPS. JHS Athletic Director Jack Fairly said the school expects to host the SEC swim meet with the nine-lane pool that includes a practice area. The new aquatic center also allows Jackson to be able to have a diving competition at JHS. Previously the diving competitions were held prior to JHS meets at the Middle School at Parkside. Fairly said the Jackson Recreation Department is currently using the pool for aerobic classes.
