MC Too Much for CC in Girls District Final

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports Michigan Center High School girls’ basketball player Shealyn Tripp said the Cardinals were not going to make the same mistake as last year. The Cardinals defeated Grass Lake in a tough district final in 2019, but lost in the opening round of the regional tournament at home. Tripp had a lot of do with the Cardinals’ 47-35 win over Columbia Central in this year’s Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 district final win. The junior scored 23 points and pulled down six rebounds as the Cardinals advanced to the regional round for another season. Michigan Center improves to 19-3 and rides a 16-game winning streak into the regional semifinals Tuesday at Columbia Central. Columbia Central finishes the season with a 20-3 record and another Lenawee County Athletic Association championship. The Golden Eagles breezed past East Jackson and Vandercook Lake to advance to this year’s district final. Spring Arbor University to Host Robotics Competition

Hundreds of Michigan high school students pioneering the next generation of robotics will visit Spring Arbor University (SAU) on March 5-7 to compete in Jackson County’s second annual FIRST in Michigan District Robotics Competition. The Star Wars-themed competition is sponsored by Consumers Energy and is the first event of its kind for SAU. The FIRST robotics competition is a three-day event that is free to the public and located in the McDonald Athletic Center at SAU. “SAU is excited to partner with FIRST Robotics and Consumers Energy to bring high schoolers from across the state to this event. We see this as an excellent opportunity to help promote robotics and STEM programs,” says Ron Delap, Dean of the School of Engineering. “These students are building and competing with machinery that makes them stand out from their peers in our state and across the nation.
