(June 17, 2022 10:33 PM) The goal for local golfer Andrea Clark was to keep her golf ball in play on Friday during the final round of the Jackson County Womens Golf Association Medal Play Tournament at Hills’ Heart of the Lakes Golf Course.
Everything else would fall into place at that point.
And – as usual – it did.
Clark shot a 1-under-par 68 to best the field by nine shots in the three-day medal tournament in Brooklyn.
The Grass Lake High School golf coach had a one-stroke lead over Lumen Christi golfer Ashley Hilderley heading into the final round on Friday morning. A 2-under-par 67 by Hilderley on Thursday tightened things up considerably.
“I didn’t hit the ball particularly well Wednesday or Thursday … I didn’t know where it was going,” Clark said. “I corrected that today.”
She opened the round with a 1-under-par 33 on the front side of Heart of the Lakes and parred the back nine.
Clark finished with a three-day total of 215 to defeat Hilderley by nine shots and Deb Falk by 13 shots in the championship flight.
Hilderley finished with rounds of 81, 67, and 78. Falk played consistently with rounds of 77, 74, and 77.
Nancy Showerman won the first flight (254), Shelley Christoff won the second flight (282), and Robin Hodges took the title in the third flight (317).
R.W. Mercer Jackson Junior Tour Results: Jackson High School golfer Colin Norton finished with the lowest 18-hole score with a 1-under-par 71 at Lakeland Hills Golf Course on Friday during the R.W. Mercer Jackson Junior Tour event. Logan Bentley of Columbia Central High School shot an 82 for 18 holes to lead the girls. Sam Swihart shot the low nine-hole score for boys with a 41 and Avery Rhodes and Olivia Berner shot 64s for the lowest nine-hole score for the girls.
PGA Tour: Brian Stuard finished with rounds of 73 and 72 on the par 70 course at the U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. Stuard at +5 misses the cut (+3) going into the weekend.
