The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is closing the eastbound I-94 ramp to Elm Road for reconstruction. This work is part of the ongoing I-94 Corridor Project.  The closure is set to begin at 7 a.m. Monday, June 17 (NEW DATE)  and last through Wednesday, July 10 at 9 p.m.

The posted detour will direct traffic to take the exit to northbound M-50/US-127, then the northbound US-127 exit to eastbound Parnall Road, which turns into Elm Road.

UPDATE (6-14-19):  Fourth Street Construction Project.

In the first half of the past week, the contractors worked to remove concrete curbs and pavements at both the Horton Road intersection and at the roundabout in front of the Middle School at Parkside. In the second part of the past week, the contractors installed new storm sewers and catch basins at the Horton Road intersection and excavated and formed the footings of the decorative wall at the Parkside roundabout.  Next week, the electrical subcontractor will arrive to build the foundations for the poles that will hold the new mast arm mounted traffic signals at the Horton intersection. The foundations will take all of next week to put in. At the same time, the concrete crew will pour the decorative wall at the Parkside roundabout. Once the wall is in, the rest of the week will be spent forming and placing concrete curbs to define the new drive lane around the roundabout and to define the splitter islands at the approaches into and out of the roundabout.

UPDATE (6-14-19):  Essex Heights Neighborhood Construction.

In the past week, crews connected the last homes in the neighborhood to the new water mains and placed, graded and compacted the new gravel base on Oakridge and Broadcrest.

Tomorrow, the last section of new water main will be installed on Glen between Kibby and Oakridge so that it can be test the following week.

Next week will be a busy week. On Broadcrest and Oakridge, the concrete crew is scheduled for Monday to put sidewalks and driveways back in. The paving crew is scheduled for Wednesday to pave this section with the base course of new hot mix asphalt.

On Grovedale and Glen and Essex Lane, the milling crew is scheduled for Tuesday to remove the remaining pavement on these streets. Once the pavement is out, the process of excavating the roadbed and placing the new gravel base will commence immediately thereafter. Late next week, the last section of sanitary sewer replacement on Essex Lane will also be completed. The sewer work will take all of a single day to get done.

The City of Jackson has announced E. Ganson Street at Edgewood Street will be closed this week through the next two weeks. This is part of ongoing work to replace a water main in this east side neighborhood near Loomis Park. The intersection will be completely shut down so crews can install a new water main under this intersection. Detours will be posted.

The City of Jackson has converted the intersection of West Prospect Street and South Jackson Street to a temporary four-way stop. The city’s Engineering Division installed the temporary signs last week to allow for better traffic flow in this area. Previously, there were only stop signs on S. Jackson. More drivers are traveling through this area due to the closure of Fourth Street for an ongoing construction project. The temporary four-way stop is intended to slow down traffic and ease traffic backups.
