Jackson County Fair presents Pay One Price Day and Veterans Day. All Veterans admitted free courtesy of AT&T.   Rides begin at 2 PM.  Dueling Pianos 4 PM to 7 PM on the Pavilion Stage.  Grandstand show:  Twisted P Rodeo at 7 PM.  $15 Box Seats, $10 General Admission.  More details at www.jacksoncountyfair.net.

Consumers Energy 400 Weekend at Michigan International Speedway.  Mencs Practice & Qualifying, Friday, August 10, 5:00 PM: The August race weekend at MIS kicks off with Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice, featuring NASCAR’s top drivers setting up their cars for Sunday’s race. This is a great day to try out the speedway with kids, as guests 12 and under are free! 

The NASCAR Foundation Speediatrics Fun Day Festival at MIS. Join The NASCAR Foundation for its first-ever Speediatrics Fun Day Festival at Michigan International Speedway. This FREE event is all about inspiring children to lead healthy lives – and have fun while doing so!  Children who attend the event will participate in NASCAR-themed field day activities and will receive giveaways and healthy snacks.  9 AM to 11 AM.

The Grand River Farmers Market is open today from 9 am until 2 pm at the corner of Louis Glick & Mechanic Street in Downtown Jackson.  The market features Michigan-grown produce; including fresh vegetables, fruits, organic goods, vegan cookies, muffins, granola, honey, jams, breads, pastas, jewelry, dog treats, salsas, fruit pies, sweet corn, tomatoes, hanging flower baskets, blueberries, maple syrup, chard, broccoli, peas, mums, and much more!

Red Cross Blood Drive.  10 a.m. – 3:45 p.m., Northwest High School, 4200 Van Horn Road, Jackson.  The American Red Cross continues to face an emergency blood shortage. Eligible donors of all blood types are urged to give now.

Jammin’ in Jackson and Family Film Night at CP Federal City Square in Horace Blackman Park, Downtown Jackson.  Jammin’ in Jackson is featuring the music of Blackstone Steel from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. The movie “Iron Man” will begin at dark. The event is FREE and open to the public.   Bring a lawn chair or a blanket!  Concessions will be available.  Thank you to Experience Jackson, Alro Steel Corporation, Consumers Energy, Tripp’s Auto Shop, Jackson Anchor Initiative, CP Federal Credit Union, County National Bank, Downtown Jackson, and Michigan Theatre of Jackson for making this events possible. 

Jackson Coffee Company presents free entertainment.  7 PM to 10 PM, Jackson Coffee Company, Downtown Jackson.

Arts in the Park.  Bobby Elrod and Doubledown perform tonight at 7 PM.  Swain Memorial Park, Brooklyn.  Free entertainment and fun for the whole family.

Will at the Wall.  Come join us at The Fourth Wall in Jackson for a hometown production of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. This festival is in its fourth year and has gotten bigger and better each year. This year the production has a contemporary setting with a punk rock flavor. Viola and her twin brother Sebastian are separated in a shipwreck, Viola falls for Duke Orsino, Duke Orsino is in love with the Countess OIivia and Olivia is in love with Viola who she mistakes for a man because she is in disguise. From there things just get crazier. Tickets are $5.   Show dates and times are:  Friday, August 10, 2018 at 7:00 pm, Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 7:00 pm and Sunday, August 12, 2018 at 2:00 pm.  Fourth Wall, 218 S. Mechanic Street.

The ABC Sisters Live.  7 PM, Concord Branch,  Jackson District Library.  By popular request, the ABC sisters will return for a summer performance in the Concord Branch Opera House. The ABC Sisters are an Andrew Sisters Tribute Act. Performing in the Midwest, we bring the old favorite scat classics home with perfect three-part harmony, 40’s dancing style, and sisterly fun-making audiences laugh, cry, clap and sing along. For the whole family.

August 11

Jackson County Fair presents Kids Day and $1 Ride Price Day.  Rides begin at 2 PM.  Kevin Nichols at 1, 2, 5 and 6 PM  on the Pavilion Stage.  Grandstand show:  Demo Derby and Enduro Cars at 7 PM.  $10 for adults, $8 for children 2 to 9.  More details at www.jacksoncountyfair.net.

Consumers Energy 400 Weekend at Michigan International Speedway.  Corrigan Oil 200, Saturday, August 11, 1:00 PM: The hard-charging drivers of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series battle for the chance to go to victory lane in the Corrigan Oil 200. The Truck Series drivers put on a great show in this 100-lap event. The race is exciting and the finishes are always close. Stick around after the race for the free post-race concert!

Birds, Blooms & Butterflies Festival at Dahlem.  The Birds, Blooms, and Butterflies (plus Bats & Bees!) Festival is perfect for families and people of all ages. Featured naturalist activities include the popular hummingbird banding, live birds of prey, butterfly exhibit, native plant sale, guided walks, native bee conservation, kids crafts & activities, artists & vendors, Jackson Audubon, Jackson County Master Gardeners, and more! Healthy and delicious food is available from Grady’s Custom Catering while snacks and refreshments are available through the Friends of Dahlem.  9 AM to 3 PM.   7117 S. Jackson Road, Jackson.

Amazing Race Jackson.  Amazing Race Jackson is all about having fun in Jackson.  Teams of 2 race around Jackson as they solve clues and complete mental/physical challenges. Race starts at 1 PM.   AFTER PARTY, Free Concert in the Park at 7:00pm. at Horace Blackman Park.  MUSIC, DRINKS, FOOD & FUN!

Music on Tap (Amazing Race Afterparty).  2018 has already been a big year for  the Mark Lavengood Band. National & International tours, writing and recording, and breaking into new markets are among the top priorities of this Grand Rapids based entourage. Lavengood is eager to bring his “Folk-Roots-Americana” sound to audiences both near and far!  7 PM, Horace Blackman Park.  Free.

Antique Tractor and Equipment Show.  This event is a gathering of vintage farm machinery, that replaced the horse of the 1800’s.  Dewey School is not open for this event.  There will be Vendors and Demonstrators on the grounds along with all the great tractors and other machinery to experience.   The 1850s ten room farm house will be open for tours for a small fee of $3.00 a person. Concessions will be available on the grounds. There will also be assorted vendors and demonstrators. Wagon rides will be available.  10 AM to 5 PM, Waterloo Farm Museum, 9998 Waterloo Munith Road, Grass Lake.  This is a free event open to the public.  The Sunday event on August 12 will take place from Noon – 5:00pm.

Consumers Energy 400 Weekend at Michigan International Speedway.  Consumers Energy 400, Sunday August 12, 2:30 PM: The 2018 racing season at MIS concludes today. The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series stars always end the MIS season with an exciting finale, featuring many lead changes and exciting finishes. With great camping, affordable adult prices, special kids pricing, free parking and the ability to bring a cooler with your favorite food and beverages, MIS is the perfect way to end your summer race season.

Church in the Park.  Cascades Falls Park.  Make shorts and sandals your new “Sunday best”. Join in worship at Cascades Falls Park, north parking lot. You can worship in your car, tuning your radio to 1700, or join us on the lawn. Kids and pets welcome. 8:30 am. Sponsored by Jackson’s First Presbyterian Church.

Back to School Event.  The City of Jackson Human Relations Commission presents a Back to School Event, today from 11 AM to 2 PM.  Free school supplies, food and fun.  CP Federal City Square, Horace Blackman Park, Downtown Jackson.

Victims of Violent Crime Memorial.  Please join us for a brief re-dedication of the Victims of Violent Crime Memorial today at 10 AM, Cascades Falls Park (Randolph Street, near the point at West High).  All are welcome to attend this important event.  Rain or shine.
