Nixon Water Park FINAL WEEK!  The Water Park will be open every day through August 17th.  Hours of operation and swim sessions are:  MONDAY THRU THURSDAY, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., 2:15 to 5:15 p.m. and 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. ($2 only). FRIDAYS AND SATURDAYS, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 2:15 to 5:15 p.m. Admission for each session is $4.00.

Grand River Farmers Market.  8 AM to 1 PM, Downtown Jackson, corner of Glick and Mechanic.

Back to School Bash Community Resource Fair.  3 PM to 7 PM, Horace Blackman Park.  Come join us in Downtown Jackson as we celebrate going back to school by providing free school supplies and book bags to those in need. Children must come with their parents and stop at the registration booth across from the parking lot on Pearl Street in front of Blackman Park or in front of the First United Methodist Church at 275 W. Michigan Ave. to receive free items and services for their children. Here is where you will also get your passport that can be turned in at the end of the event to be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card.   The supplies will be handed out by each one of the vendors so be sure to stop by each booth and check out all of their cool resources! There will also be vision screenings, haircuts, dental cleanings provided by Smiles On Wheels Mobile Dental Hygiene care, games, inflatables, food, and music provided by DJ MIKE HOLIDAY. The best part is everything is free due to all of our wonderful sponsors!

People Get Ready – The Songs that Shaped the 60’s.  Join us as Matt Davis, Kerrie Manders, Lori Pelham, Sandy Sykes, and Sherra Zuck take the stage at the historic Michigan Theatre of Jackson for four incredible shows  in August in a celebration on the 50th anniversary of the end of an incredible decade of music with songs by The Beach Boys, The Supremes, The Monkees, The Who, The Mamas and The Papas, Burt Bacharach, Loretta Lynn, Simon & Garfunkel, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, David Bowie, Carole King, Jefferson Airplane, The Beatles, and many more. Doors open at 7:00 pm.  Show at 8:00 pm.  $23 Reserved Seating/ VIP seating is also available.  Purchase tickets online here.

Arts in the Park Series.  7 PM.  Located in Swain Memorial Park, Brooklyn.  All concerts are free and family friendly!  Tonight:  Village Square Acoustics.  Presented by Irish Hills Community Legacy and community sponsors, including Brooklyn Exponent,  JTV, Village of Brooklyn, West Bay Exploration, Absopure, Big Boy and ITC.

Live Music at Jackson Coffee Company.  AWA Will Rogers Award Winner as Best Male Vocalist, Bob Marshall, entertains tonight.   Bob Marshall winner 2019 Country Album of the Year by the CMA of Texas.   7 PM to 10 PM, Jackson Coffee Company, 201 S. Mechanic Street, Downtown Jackson.

The Michigan State Police Jackson Post would like to invite the public to attend a Post Open House on Friday, Aug. 16 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Visitors will be able to meet troopers from the post as well as members from the Emergency Support Team, Marine Division, Canine Team, Motor Unit, Aviation Unit – the helicopter, Computer Crimes Unit, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, MSP Dispatch and other state specialty teams.   Child Safety Identification Kits will be available for those with children, as well as recruiters for individuals who are interested in joining the MSP. There will be classic MSP patrol vehicles and a dunk tank for anybody who would like to participate in Dunk-A-Cop.   Join us for this fun-filled event suited for both adults and children.

Movie:  Up!   Join us for another great Movie in the Park at The Cascades! Grab your lawn chairs and blankets and come out and watch a movie on the big screen! Movie will start approximately at 9:00pm.  Admission: 3 and under free, $3 children 4-12, $4 ages 65+.  $5 for regular admission.

Running Through the Vines.  Sandhill Crane Vineyards.  Join us August 17, 2019 for the sixth annual high class run with a high class finish party at Sandhill Crane Vineyards! Choose 5K, 5 Mile, Half Marathon, or Cellar Slam (5K + 5 Mile). G.R.E.A.T. 2nd Annual Paddling Clinic.  12 Noon to 4 PM.  Vandercook Lake County Park.  Bring your own canoe or kayak, or use one of ours – learn safety, techniques, first aid, and more! We’ll be located at the Vandercook Lake Co Park Boat Launch at the west end of Avenue C/Floyd Rd., Jackson. This year we are having the United States Coast Guard Aux., Jackson County Conservation District, Jackson American Red Cross, Krupa’s Boat Mart, Jackson County Parks Association, Henry Ford Allegiance Health Trauma, Upper Grand River Watershed Alliance, Quiet World Sports LLC, Michigan DEQ/ EGLE, and Michigan DNR.   At the Clinic you will learn rules of the road on the water, how to safely get back in your boat if you fall out, how to take your pet with you paddling, how to deal with a physical emergency on the water, places to paddle, how to keep your boat free of invasive plants, the right boat and paddle to buy, the right life jacket (for you and your pet) to purchase, how to join the 2020 Grand River Expedition and more!   Everyone is welcome! – whether you’ve participated in GREAT events in the past or this is your first time joining us. Jackson Pride Week.  Pride Week begins with an Interfaith Ice Cream Social.   Interfaith Dialogue Ice Cream Social, Jackson’s First Presbyterian Church, 743 W Michigan Avenue.  An opportunity for LBGTQ individuals to talk with religious leaders and congregations interested in providing more inclusive support to the Pride Community.  Ice cream and assorted beverages will be served.  1 PM to 4 PM.

10th Annual Back to School Bash.  Join us Sunday, August 18, 2019, Noon to 6pm.  Martin Luther King Jr Center.  School supplies, free BBQ lunch, entertainment, guest speakers, haircuts,  3 on 3 basketball, bounce house, dj and more!
