Fair Week at Nixon Water Park.  The Nixon Water Park is offering a special rate during the Jackson County Fair from August 5-10.  Enjoy a reduced of $3 per person per session.

Jackson County Rose Festival presents Miss Jackson County Teen USA Pageant.  Doors open at 6:30 for 7 PM Pageant.  Western High School Performing Arts Center.  Adults $15, students $7, age 5 and under free.  For tickets, click here.

Laser Light Shows at Hurst Planetarium.  Today:  Members Only Show at  6 PM, Stranger Things  at 7 PM and Pink Floyd:  The Wall at 8 PM. Join Ella Sharp Museum in the Hurst Planetarium all this week for three featured laser light shows each day.  Tickets are available at the door of the planetarium before each show.  $6 for adults, $4 for children.

Healthwise Screening Event.  Jackson College will present the HealthWise Screening Event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 9 in the Health Laboratory Center on the Jackson Central Campus. HealthWise provides an opportunity for community members to choose from a variety of health screening services available free of charge. Arts in the Park Series.  7 PM.  Located in Swain Memorial Park, Brooklyn.  All concerts are free and family friendly!  Tonight:  Bobby Elrod and Double-Down.  Presented by Irish Hills Community Legacy and community sponsors, including Brooklyn Exponent,  JTV, Village of Brooklyn, West Bay Exploration, Absopure, Big Boy and ITC.

Escape from Houdini’s Workshop.  You are tasked with investigating Harry Houdini’s private workshop. The goal, the escape with the magician’s secrets in hand, is not as easy as it seems. Players must use clues and intellect to beat JDL’s magician-themed escape room. Groups of 8 are encouraged but not required. Space is limited, please register with the Carnegie Library Youth Services at 517-788-4087 ext. 1331. August 8: 2-6 PM, Teens only event (ages 11-18)  August 10: 11 AM – 3 PM, All ages.  Five sessions a day, at the top of the hour.  Carnegie Branch, Jackson District Library.

People Get Ready – The Songs that Shaped the 60’s.  Join us as Matt Davis, Kerrie Manders, Lori Pelham, Sandy Sykes, and Sherra Zuck take the stage at the historic Michigan Theatre of Jackson for four incredible shows  in August in a celebration on the 50th anniversary of the end of an incredible decade of music with songs by The Beach Boys, The Supremes, The Monkees, The Who, The Mamas and The Papas, Burt Bacharach, Loretta Lynn, Simon & Garfunkel, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, David Bowie, Carole King, Jefferson Airplane, The Beatles, and many more. Doors open at 7:00 pm.  Show at 8:00 pm.  $23 Reserved Seating/ VIP seating is also available.  Purchase tickets online here.

Stuff the Bus. Final Day.   United Way of Jackson County, along with local business and area agencies, are inviting residents to donate school supplies so all children in Jackson County have the tools they need to learn and succeed.  Drop-off sites include the following:

  • Henry Ford Allegiance Health—Cafeteria, One Jackson Square lobby, Orthopedic/Neuroscience Center lobby

Consumers Energy 400 Race Weekend.  The August race weekend at MIS kicks off with Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice, featuring NASCAR’s top drivers setting up their cars for Sunday’s race. This is a great day to try out the speedway with kids, as guests 12 and under are free!

Friday Night Live Music at the Jackson Coffee Company.  7 PM to 10 PM.  Live local and regional acts.  Free admission.

Late Night Fridays at Sandhill Crane Vineyards.  The cafe is open late on Friday nights with live entertainment.  Join us every Friday night May-October for late nights at Sandhill!  Our hours extend to 10pm with live music 6-9 every Friday night!  Weekend specials start on Friday, so you will find things like sandwich/soup/salads options, in addition to our regular menu.  Wine by the glass or bottle, flights, tastings, sangria, & beer (subject to availability) will all be available for purchase!  Tonight’s entertainment by Michael David.

Consumers Energy 400 Race Weekend.  The hard-charging drivers of the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series battle for the chance to go to victory lane in the Corrigan Oil 200. The Truck Series drivers put on a great show in this 100-lap event. The race is exciting and the finishes are always close. Stick around after the race for the free post-race concert!

13th Annual Antique Tractor, Truck and  Farm Equipment Show.  All are welcome to display or tour the antique tractors, trucks and farm equipment.  Free event, open to the public Time: August 10th, 10am-5pm , August 11th, 12pm-5pm.  Location: Waterloo Farm Museum, 13493 Waterloo-Munith Rd. , Grass Lake.   Farmhouse tours will be available $3. Concession and Grandma’s Attic Sale .  No pets allowed, service dogs welcome!

World War I Day.  Join us on Saturday August 10th for our 2nd annual World War One Commemoration Day. We will have many special exhibits to include living historians in period attire, cocktails of the era, vehicles and weaponry, a toy soldier painting class, museum exhibits, authors with books to sign and of course period music with the return of Tartanius Flynn and The Dugouts for an early evening performance. Admission is $7.00 for adults, $5.00 for students age 10 and up or seniors 55 and over, veterans are free as are children under 10. Consumers Energy 400 Race Weekend.  The 2019 racing season at MIS concludes on August 9-11. The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series stars always end the MIS season with an exciting finale, featuring many lead changes and exciting finishes. With great camping, affordable adult prices, special kids pricing, free parking and the ability to bring a cooler with your favorite food and beverages, MIS is the perfect way to end your summer race season.

Urban Rural Conversation.  Art 634, 1 PM to 4 PM.  Join Michigan ArtShare and ART 634 for Urban Rural Conversation featuring Detroit artist Timothy Orikri and music by Kev E Kev & Friends.  Designed as an exchange of art, music, food and creativity between some of Michigan’s urban and rural communities, where people can get together around a shared cultural experience to learn more about each other. This project was created by Michigan ArtShare and is generously supported by a grant from Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and Michigan State University Extension.
