Grotto Breakfast Benefit.  For a donation, have a wonderful breakfast and support great local causes!  Menu:  Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage links, biscuits & gravy, hash browns, toast, orange juice, coffee.  Proceeds will benefit the following local charities:  The Jackson Community Food Pantry, Toys for Tots, Salvation Army Bucket Brigade, Dirk V. Miller Memorial Scholarship Fund.  7 AM to 11 AM, Grotto Club, 102 East Washington Avenue, Downtown Jackson.

2018 Light Up Concord Outdoor Christmas Decorating Contest.  Cash prizes will be awarded. $250 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place.  All prizes will be awarded at JDL’s Holiday Open House at the Concord Opera House in Concord from 7 PM – 10 PM. Get into the Holiday spirit with music, dance, caroling, and more! Hot chocolate and cookies. It’s a night of fun for the whole family! Included in the fun are performances by the Bethel Celebration Ringers and dancers from the Grace School of Dance!  Friends of the Concord Branch will be collecting scarves, hats, mittens, and socks for our Holiday tree to donate to Concord Community Schools.  Drive through Concord, pick your favorite and join us for the celebration and awards on Friday!

Tompkins Center Historical Society’s December Dinner.  The next Tompkins Center Historical Society’s dinner will be held on Friday, December 7th, 2018 at the Tompkins Center’s Township Town Hall at 9999 Tompkins Rd., Rives Junction, about half a mile north of Tompkins Center off of M-50.  Between Jackson and Eaton Rapids.  On the menu for this month is Swiss Steak, salad bar and delicious desserts. Serving time is from 5 to 6:30 pm. in Tompkins Center’s Township Town Hall.  Hours:  5 PM  to 6:30 PM.  Take out orders call (517-569-2463) night of the dinner.  Dinner gift certificates available also. This is the last dinner of 2018. 

Live Music at Jackson Coffee Company.  Tonight, Dan Hazlett.  Dan’s rich, warm voice and skillful acoustic guitar work make his performances touching, humorous and uplifting. He blends a folksy, jazzy style with carefully crafted and thoughtful songwriting.. 7 PM to 10 PM.  Jackson Coffee Company, corner of Mechanic and Cortland, Downtown Jackson. 

Christmas Craft Fair.  9 AM to 4 PM.  Join us at Career Quest Learning Centers and shop from many local artists, direct sells companies, and local small businesses!  Admission is free for all!  Proceeds will go toward helping a family in need for Christmas!  Career Quest, Commonwealth Commerce Center.

An Evening with Santa Claus.  4 PM to 7 PM.  Santa can be scary when you are small! An evening with Santa Claus is the perfect way to introduce young children to Santa.  Children are able to approach Santa on their own time in their own way when they feel comfortable!  Santa will arrive around 5pm to hang out with us at Funday’s!  So start your holiday season off right– Listen to some Christmas tunes, sip Santa’s favorite sipping chocolate, make a fun Holiday craft and enjoy an evening with Santa! We will wrap up the evening with Santa reading The Night Before Christmas! $5 admission for this special night. Funday’s Family Fun Cafe, 2151 Ferguson Rd. Hanging of the Greens.  Spring Arbor University invites the community to its 18th Annual Hanging of the Greens celebration on Friday, Dec. 7. Hanging of the Greens is a time for the SAU community and friends to gather and experience the amazing sights and sounds of Christmas. The event is free and open to the public.  The evening’s festivities will kick off with a Christmas concert performed by SAU students, held at at 7 p.m. in the Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church. Following the concert, everyone is invited to participate in a candle-lighting ceremony, featuring a Christmas carol sing-along and fireworks, sponsored by American 1 Credit Union. After the ceremony, families can take a break from the chilly weather and warm up at the Community Reception held in the Student Life Center at 8:30 p.m. All are welcome to decorate Christmas cookies, sip hot cocoa, enjoy roasted almonds and balloon animals and visit with Santa Claus.  Throughout the evening, families may also ride through campus on horse-drawn Christmas wagons. Additionally, all are welcome to view the best student artwork of the semester, which will be on display in the Ganton Art Gallery beginning at 8:30 p.m.

Napoleon Craft Show.  Napoleon AIMS Parent Group is hosting their annual Winter Craft Show on Saturday, December 8th.  Admission is $1.00 per person (kids under 12 free) – all door proceeds will be used to provide Christmas for needy families in the Napoleon community.  Come out and enjoy some holiday shopping as you browse more than 80 vendor booths.  Proceeds from the craft show (booth rentals and concessions) will be used in support of extracurricular middle school activities including: 8th grade class trip, 7th grade class trip, student activity nights, technology for hands-on learning, and library upgrades.  9 AM to 3 PM, 204 West Avenue, Napoleon.

Speaker Series.  The Hackett Auto Museum is pleased to announce the second event of its 2018-2019 speaker series – “A Conversation with Steve Purdy.”  Steve Purdy is a Mid Michigan-based multimedia automotive journalist who has been photographing automotive hood ornaments, also known as “mascots,” for more than 40 years. Purdy’s upcoming book “Mascots of Motion,” will display thousands of his images and tell the stories of these wonderful examples of fine automotive art.  This event is free; however, a $5 donation is suggested. All proceeds benefit the Hackett Auto Museum.  Carnegie Branch, Jackson District Library.  11 AM to 1 PM.

Holiday Open House.  Join us for our holiday open house! Do some wine tasting and enjoy some complimentary nibbles. Maybe you’ll find the perfect wine or gift item for someone special on your list – or for your own holiday party or table!  Lone Oak Vineyard, 11 AM to 6 PM.  8400 Ann Arbor Road, Grass Lake.

Saturday Skating and Laser Tag.  Join us for lot’s of Fun Games all day long! So bring the whole Family, Mom, Dad & the kids! Skate Mates $5 + deposit. While you’re there play some Laser Tag & check out our really cool Game Room and try to win some very awesome prizes! Plus many other fun games you can win lots of tickets!  Admission: $8,  $4 for any type of skate rental.  12 PM to 9 PM.  Allskate Fun Center, 1313 West North Street, Jackson.

The Nutcracker.  The JSO is pleased to join forces with Ballet Chelsea to present its 21st annual performance of The Nutcracker on December 8-9, 2018. The annual production is a full-length, narrated ballet, choreographed by Ballet Chelsea Artistic Director Wendi DuBois and will feature a live symphony orchestra. Audiences young and old from all over southern Michigan return year after year for this family friendly holiday favorite.  This weekend, performances are at Jackson College Potter Center.  2 PM.  Tickets and more information here.

Holiday Kissing Ball Workshop.  This makes such a fun evening with friends!  Kissing balls are pomanders, round decorated bases studded or decorated with flowers, greenery, ribbons or other small items and hung in an arch or doorway.  The price is just $20 per person and includes the supplies to create one kissing ball. One additional kissing ball may be made for $20. Please register online to reserve your spot!  chspets.org.  Walk ins will be welcome, but we do have a limited number of seats available. Michigan Theatre Producers present Christmas Market and Christmas Movie.  Finish your Christmas shopping today. Everything from Christmas themed items to unique Christopher Radko Ornaments available with a donation to The Michigan Theatre Producers. A Free Movie will also be Screened at the end of the Christmas market. Movie is “Home Alone”.  Movie Starts at 2:00 PM FREE Admission.

Mural Pride on the South Side.  The Southside mural project is a celebration and commemoration of the rich history from the Southside of Jackson.  The mural honors people, places and activities of years’ past re-igniting the pride and passion in the heart of the Jackson Community including Teresa Delph, Carl Breeding, Rev Polk Williams and Mrs. Shirley Pitts.  The artwork will be placed on the Martin Luther King Jr. Equality Trail just south of High St. This is a great step in the revitalization of our Southside neighborhood.  3 PM to 6 PM, Martin Luther King, Jr. Center, 1107 Adrian Street, Jackson.

Christmas Concert.  Music Notes Jackson proudly presents their annual Christmas Concert on December 8th at 7:00pm with refreshments to follow. The event takes place at Arbor Grove Congregational Church, 2621 McCain Rd Jackson.  Admission is a $10 donation.  Guests providing a non-perishable donation to the Jackson County Food Pantry or to the Jackson County Animal Shelter will receive $5 off admission.  Guests wearing an Ugly Christmas Sweater will receive $2 off admission.  Santa Claus will make an appearance!

Holiday Cupcake Decorating for Kids. 2 PM – 2:30 PM.   Join Laura from the Blue Julep Bakery! Learn how to decorate your own holiday-themed cupcake, and then, of course, eat it!  Reservation required, so please call Youth Services at (517) 788-4087 (ext. 1331) to save your spot.  Intended for Ages 5 – 12.  Carnegie Branch, Jackson District Library.

Merry & Bright Open House.  Jackson School of the Arts.  During the Merry & Bright Open House, we create a wonderful & memorable day for families. An Art exhibit features the works of our students, our dancers from tiny ballerinas to high schooler’s in hip hop perform, and our theater students take the stage. Families mingle, create art, enjoy music & refreshments. This event is free to the public. So come join us in ringing in the holiday’s!  1 PM to 3 PM, 634 North Mechanic Street, Jackson.

Second Sunday Jazz Brunch.  It’s quickly become a favorite tradition — join us on the 2nd Sunday of every month for Jazz Brunch!  Reservations highly recommend, space is limited.  Reservation time slots are available from 10:30-12:30.  The event includes live music from local jazz musicians.  Live Jazz from Harrington Brown 10:30-1:30  We offer table service with a very special brunch menu!  Cost: $5 cover charge.  Call 517.764.0679 for more information or to make reservations.

Knights of Columbus Breakfast.  St Marys Star of the Sea: Welcomes you and your family to our 2018-2019 season tradition Knights of Columbus Breakfasts. Join us in fellowship with your family.  Date: Sunday, December 9th.  Time: 9:00 till 11:30. 120 E. Wesley, Jackson.  Adults: $7.00, Children 6-13: $ 4.00, Children 5 and Under eat free.

Joseph’s Journey, A Christmas Rock Opera.  Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church presents:  Joseph’s Journey, December 9 & 14 .  This rock opera is the Christmas story as if it took place in the 1980s – with live music from Journey, Rick Springfield, REO Speedwagon, Cyndi Lauper, Bon Jovi, and many more 80s rock stars. Come dressed in 80’s attire and rock out to your favorite hits from the decade of rad. Two LIVE performances:   December 9 at 6:00 p.m. December 14 at 7:00 p.m.  Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church Auditorium, 120 E Main Street, Spring Arbor.  Free Admission.

Skate with Santa Party.  Allskate Fun Center.  Skate with Santa Party is on Sunday, Dec. 9th 1-6pm. Santa will be skating with us from 2-5pm!  Adm is $8, or only $4 if you wear a Santa Hat!  Along with Skating and Laser Tag will be the Game Room for a chance to win some really cool prizes! When you get hungry check out our Snack Bar!  Pictures with Santa are Free so don’t forget your camera!  $4 rental skates, Skate Mates are $5 + deposit.  While your there check out the Fantastic Skate Sale and our FUN BUCKS are great Christmas Gifts as well!
