Oscar Nominated Shorts at the Michigan Theatre.  For the 14th consecutive year, Shorts HD and Magnolia Pictures present the Oscar-Nominated Short Films, opening on Feb. 8th. With all three categories offered – Animated, Live Action and Documentary – this is your annual chance to predict the winners (and have the edge in your Oscar pool)! A perennial hit with audiences around the country and the world, don’t miss this year’s selection of shorts. Presented by the Jackson High School Theatre Dept. Royal Guild Society of Ephemeral Thespian Persons. “Writer’s Block”, by Audrey Febres-Cordero,  “Derrier-Apple-or-Pet-It-Digiorno” by The Coarse Writer’s Guild and “Private Eyesore” by Audrey Febres-Cordero.  Directed by Diego Febres-Cordero.  Friday and Saturday evening at 7 PM, Sunday at 3 PM.  $5.  Jackson High School Auditorium.

Glow Party Late Skate.  Late Skate Glow Party for ages 10 & older will be held on Friday, Feb. 8th 6-11pm! Admission is $20 and includes: 1 Free Glow Rope , 1 Game of Laser Tag, 8 Game Tokens, 1 Slice of Pizza and  pop!  Door prizes will be given out throughout the event with 50 Allskate Fun Bucks as the big daddy door prize! Jackson Symphony Orchestra presents West Side Story.  Our exploration of Leonard Bernstein’s influence on American music continues with performances of two of his most famous musicals, West Side Story and On the Town. Virtuosic and versatile pianist Willis Delony joins the JSO in the Michigan premiere of Greg Yasinitsky’s Jazz Piano Concerto.  Tickets start at $20.00. MIS Backyard Hockey Tournament.  Michigan International Speedway has created a unique experience for everyone. On February 9 – 10 Michigan International Speedway is hosting the Inaugural MIS Backyard Hockey Tournament and Winter Festival in the tri-oval. The tournament is a USA Hockey Sanctioned event and will feature three-on-three and four-on-four hockey action. Features: adult and women leagues, 8U, Squirt (10U), Pee Wee (12U), Bantam, Midget A, combine Midget AA and college age up to 20 years of age.For any hockey related questions, please contact Chad Kennedy at ckennedy@waltoninsurancegroup.com or call 517-812-7526.

Cupid’s Arrow Tea Party.  $20 Includes all art supplies, a magical afternoon, and a tea party for you and your favorite doll!  Spread some love this Valentine’s Day as you and your doll create some beautiful hand made Valentine’s to share with those you love. Jackson College Jets Sportsman’s Banquet.  Victor Cuiss Fieldhouse, Jackson College Central Campus.  Raffles, auctions, drawings, dinner, drinks and more.  Social hour begins at 5 PM, Dinner at 6:30 PM.  $45 per person.

For the Love of the Arts.  A  a Valentine-themed event featuring interactive art, dance, meal and engagement with community to fundraise and reimagine the mission of Jackson School of the Arts.   6-10 pm,  Commonwealth Commerce Center City View Ballroom,  209 E Washington Ave, Jackson.  For the LOVE of the Arts will offer various opportunities to support the Jackson Center of the Arts, including a cash bar with a signature drink, date baskets for raffle, dance performance and participation with local celebrities, artwork for purchase and more! This event is organized by a group of professionals participating in the 38th annual Leadership Jackson Class of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce.  Tickets are $35 per person at the door or online here.

Teen Extreme Party at the Jackson YMCA.  The Jackson YMCA Future Leaders, along with several community partners, are bringing Extreme Teen Parties to the Y. 6th-8th graders will have the Y to themselves in this after-hours bash! There will be prizes, goody bags, and tons of fun for everyone!  Some great activities at the Party Nights; Jackson District Library will be there with a Virtual Reality System, Pro DJ’s will be providing a DJ for music, Baker College will have their 3D printing demos, Consumer Energy will be sponsoring Build Your Own Marshmallow Shooters and when the teens complete an activity, they will be entered in a drawing for prizes at the end of the night like gift cards, Michigan Basketball Tickets, and portable power chargers! K105.3 Chili Cook-Off sponsored by Tripp’s Auto Shop.  American 1 Events Center, Jackson County Fairgrounds.  $5 admission at the door to taste all the chili you can.  Includes voting tickets for People’s Choice.  Budweiser beverage sales & concessions available.  Doors open at 12 Noon, tastings begin at 1 PM.  Entertainment with Zumba, Kevin Nichols and more.

The Inaugural Battle of the Badges Charity Hockey Tournament.  3:30 PM, Optimist Ice Arena.  An exciting hockey face-off between Law Enforcement and Firefighters to raise money for child abuse prevention efforts and other youth programs provided by The Optimist Club and Exchange Club of Jackson County.  Round robin style mini-tournament between Michigan State Police, Summit Fire Department and Michigan Department of Corrections.  Games will be 20 minutes each with the championship game at 6:30 PM.  50/50 drawings, Pro DJs Photo Booth, food, adult beverages, fun intermission games and more!  Tickets are $10 per person, 12 and under free as this is a family event!  More information on Facebook.
