July 5

First Friday Film Series:  “Grease”.  Join us for a family-friendly classic at CP Federal City Square in Jackson’s Horace Blackman Park.  Experience the friendships, romances, and adventures of a group of high school kids in the 1950s. Welcome to the singing and dancing world of “Grease,” the most successful movie musical of all time. A wholesome exchange student (Olivia Newton-John) and a leather-clad Danny (John Travolta) have a summer romance, but will it cross clique lines?  This event is FREE and open to the public.  Films will begin at dark (around 9:30/9:45 pm). Popcorn will be available for $1 per box.  “Grease”.  Friday, July 5th, 2019 from 9-11pm.

The Jackson County Republican Committee is hosting a birthday party type event to celebrate Jackson as the birthplace of the Republican Party.  On July 6, 1854,  an anti-slavery convention was held “Under the Oaks” in Jackson. The convention resulted in the founding of the Republican Party’s original platform and first slate of candidates.  “We invite residents to join us for cake and ice cream as we celebrate Jackson’s important role in the abolition of slavery and founding of the Republican Party.” Craig Pappin, JCRC Chairman.  Open to the public – free event.  5:30pm- 7:00pm.  Under the Oaks Park (corner of 2nd and Franklin in the City of Jackson)

Late Night Fridays at Sandhill Crane Vineyards.  Join us every Friday night May-October for late nights at Sandhill!  Our hours extend to 10 pm with live music 6-9 every Friday night!  Join us on the deck for live tunes, weather permitting.  Friday, July 5th: Marvin Rieli.

Live Music at Jackson Coffee Company.  7 PM to 10 PM.  Great local and regional acts performing every Friday evening.  Corner of Cortland and Mechanic Street, Downtown Jackson.

Guest Lecture at Hurst Planetarium.  Join Hurst Planetarium for another First Friday event featuring Planetarium Operator, Austin Edmister, who will take us around the moon in preparation for the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing.  This event is part of our ‘First Fridays’ series. In 2019 experience the Ella Sharp Museum, Cell Block 7, and Peter F. Hurst Planetarium in new and exciting ways. Every first Friday of the month will feature a unique event highlighting a special part of the museum in a different way.   Every First Friday is $10, or $15 for two.   Admission is free for members of the Ella Sharp Museum.

Grand River Farmer’s Market.  Downtown Jackson, along the Grand River, corner of Glick and Mechanic.  8 AM to 2 PM.  We accept cash, credit, checks, double up food bucks, WIC project fresh, senior project fresh, and bridge cards!    See you at the market!

Waterloo Farm Museum Tours.  The Waterloo Farm Museum is a complex of several buildings supporting an 1880s farm life.  On the grounds is an 1850 farm house, ice house, log house, windmill, woodworking and blacksmith workshop and others. A docent leads the tour eager to share and answer your questions.  1 PM to 5 PM.  13493  Waterloo-Munith Road, Grass Lake.

Palooza’s at the Falls.  Mobile Dueling Pianos, 6 PM at the Cascades Falls.  Entertainment, fun, food, beer tent.  Sponsored by Myers Family Little Caesars of Jackson.   $5 per person, $4 ages 65+.

Brooklyn Fireworks Show.  Fireworks Show in Brooklyn.  Date:  July 6, 2019 at Dusk.  Where: Over Lake Columbia.

Hanover-Horton 4th of July Events continue Sunday with Fishing Contest at 8 AM to 12 N.  Pig Roast at 12 Noon at Horton Congregational Church.  Lucky Ducky Derby at 12 Noon at Snyder Park.  UnityHorton Worship Service, 10:30 AM at Horton Congregational Church.  More details on the day’s activities here.
