Grand River Farmers Market.  9 AM to 2 PM.  The Grand River Farmers Market is now open for the 2021 season at the corner of Louis Glick and Pearl Streets in Jackson.  Open Fridays and Saturdays, 9-2.  Lots of great new vendors, and our favorite regulars too! Buy local at the Grand River Farmers Market and receive the freshest produce in the area. Sandstone Congregational Church Annual Rummage Sale and Bake Sale.  Friday June 11,2021 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Saturday June 12, 2021 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.  710 South Sandstone Road (just south of Michigan Ave.), Jackson.  Lower Level, park in back.

Spring Arbor Outdoor Movie Night.  The Arbor Church presents “Cars 2” Outdoor Movie Nights at Bean Elementary!   Free fun for the whole family to enjoy! @9:15pm  Bean Elementary School, 3201 Noble Rd, Spring Arbor.  Free popcorn!

Spring Arbor University Sports Camps.  Spring Arbor University is hosting 2021 Summer Sports Camps in July and July in the following areas:

  • Tennis
  • Volleyball

Jackson District Library Summer Reading Program.  The Summer Reading Program is underway and we’re kicking off a summer of Tails & Tales with a Pets Caught Reading Photo Contest. Enter a photo of your furry, feathered or scaly friends reading your favorite book for the chance to win a gift card to a local pet store.  Photos can be submitted June 7-11 to marketing@myjdl.com and winners will be announced June 14.  

Invent, Innovate, Imagine! Registration.  Final Day to Register! Invent, Innovate, Imagine! is designed for K-12 youth throughout Jackson, offering access to out-of-the-ordinary, hands-on STEM activities throughout the summer. Students can participate in live sessions that cover basic robotics, intro and advanced coding, software programming, identifying invasive species, the science of sound, and more! Each session includes hands-on STEM materials; including arts & crafts, robotics, and software; and gives students tools to stay engaged with learning throughout the summer!   The program is made possible by the Jackson Area Manufacturers Association, the Jackson County Intermediate School District, The Shop Rat Foundation, INNOVATE Albion, the Jackson District Library, and Spring Arbor University’s Engineering Department.  A complete schedule and signup link at i3jackson.com. Jackson Rose Run.  The 51st Annual Jackson Rose Run at Ella Sharp Park.  Race day and early registration at jacksonroserun.com.  The race starts at the drive to the lighted softball field and concludes near the Rotunda.  10K, 5K Run, Walk and Kids Fun Run.  This longtime annual tradition benefits the Jackson College cross country team.   The Jackson Rose Run is an ORS Running Series event and sponsored by Orthopaedic Rehab Specialists,  Experience Jackson, and JTV.

6th Annual Irish Hills Lake and Home Tour.  People are invited to see and visit the lakes onboard rafts.  View homes on five of our area’s popular lakes, from a pontoon.  Tours will be on Lake Columbia, Clark Lake, Devils Lake, Wampler’s Lake and Lake Somerset.  Realtors and builders will be available at each lake.  There will be LIVE music and snacks onshore.  The concept:  all in hopes of helping participants fall in love with the idea of lake living.  Hours:  10:00 AM to 5:00 PM  Call 517-592-8907 or visit IrishHills.com for more information.

Three Free Weekend!  The DNR is celebrating another ‘Three Free’ Weekend: Fishing, ORV riding and Recreation Passport event.  On June 12-13, residents and out-of-state visitors can fish, ride Michigan’s off-road trails or visit state parks and state-managed boating access sites – all for free.  

Free Fishing Weekend: Two days twice a year, families and friends can enjoy one of Michigan’s premier outdoor activities, Michigan fishing, for free! All fishing license fees will be waived for two days. Residents and out-of-state visitors may enjoy fishing on both inland and Great Lakes waters for all species of fish. All fishing regulations will still apply. This year’s weekend includes a 4-H Youth Virtual Fishing Derby for kids ages 5-19 (no need to be a 4-H member).

Free ORV Weekend: Twice a year, residents and nonresidents legally can ride without buying an ORV license or trail permit during Free ORV Weekends (the second one is set for Aug. 21-22). All other ORV rules and laws still apply. Riders will have access to nearly 3,800 miles of off-road trails and the state’s six scramble areas.

Waived Recreation Passport: A Recreation Passport will not be required for entry into state parks and boating access sites during ‘Three Free’ Weekend.

The Cascades Rotary Community Bandshell Summer Concert Series.  All concerts start at 7 PM.  Free to the public.  Today, Gary Nimenski, guitar and keyboard music for all ages.  Entertainment sponsored by The Myers Family Little Caesars of Jackson.  Bring a blanket or lawn chair.

South Jackson Community Church Annual Strawberry Festival   2:00 PM – 4:00 PM.  Due to so many limitations due to COVID-19, we will be doing the Strawberry Festival as a DRIVE THRU ONLY this year.  There will be 2 entrances available to drive in.  One will be off of South Jackson Road and the other will be off of Kimmel Road.  Follow those directing traffic.  At the Festival we still are serving up a large slice of shortcake, which will be made that same morning, a heap of fresh strawberries, and 2 scoops of ice cream.  Each item is in its own to-go containers and then will be placed in bags.  No beverages will be available.  The cost is $7.00 a ticket.  Profits will be donated to local missions.  We really look forward to seeing you!  South Jackson Community Church, 1024 W.
