Popcorn Drive Thru Pickup.   Pull up at 124 N. Mechanic Street (under the Michigan Theatre Marquee) in Jackson between 5:00 and 6:30 P.M.    Stay in your car and one of the Michigan Theatre’s masked and gloved representatives will hand you a box (or boxes) of free famous Michigan Theatre popcorn!

Cascades Humane Society 4th Annual Wine & Whiskers.  Enjoy this annual event in a new format.  During May and June, purchase your tickets at chspets.org and enjoy food, wine and friends in an intimate setting at Sandhill Crane Vineyards.  Presented by Lammer’s Heating & Air Conditioning.  Tickets are just $30 and can be purchased on the website by clicking the ticketing link. Jackson County Student Art Show.  The Jackson County Student Art Show is presented online. Jackson Art Teachers are excited to celebrate the amazing artwork from the talented students from the Jackson area. The judging is now complete. Congratulations to all of the award winners! American 1 Shred Day.  American 1 Credit Union offers annual free Community Shred Days for individuals and small businesses to shred their confidential documents in a safe, professional setting.  The Jackson Shred Day is May 15, 2021, from 10am to 12pm at the Westwood Mall (1850 W Michigan Ave., Jackson).  Free shred days are an opportunity to safely and securely destroy personal documents that include important and private information you would never want anyone to have. American 1 uses reputable shred companies to bring a shredding truck on-site to shred day and can shred your documents before you leave. The shred companies properly dispose of shred material and recycle the material in a secure process, so no personal information is vulnerable.

Community Food Pantry at Jax Naz Church.  9 AM to 11:30 AM.  Foods being distributed include produce, bread and baked goods, meat and non-perishables (while supplies last).  3905 Clinton Road (M-50), Jackson.

The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk Series.  Cascades Falls Park.  Honor all of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and support our first responders and military who make extraordinary sacrifices in the line of duty! For more information on the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation please visit www.tunnel2towers.org.  This will be the fifth year for the Tunnel to Towers Jackson 5k which draws runners and walkers from all over Michigan!  Where can I go to register for the Tunnel to Towers Jackson 5K?  Click here!  Pre-event registration will begin at 8:00 a.m., with open running starting at 9:00 a.m. This will allow runners to space out their runs and practice social distancing. The starting line will officially close at 11:30 a.m.  Social distancing will be practiced and runners are asked to wear a mask!

City of Jackson Spring Cleanup Day.  The City of Jackson is holding a Spring Cleanup Event on Saturday, May 15 at the Department of Public Works Operations Center near Downtown Jackson. The event is free and open to all City residents.  This second of two cleanup days is for residents who live south of Michigan Avenue.   The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  at the DPW Operations Center, located at 521 Water St. Residents are asked to stay in their vehicles and drive through the drop off zone, entering using the intersection of Water and Morrell streets, and exiting using Franklin Street.
Yard waste, such as grass clippings and brush, can be dropped off, along with general household trash like boxes and furniture. The following is a list of items that WILL NOT be accepted: Batteries, tires, kitchen garbage, paint, liquid waste, appliances that contain or have contained freon, all hazardous waste, electronics, motor oil.  Staff working the events will be checking bags to make sure they do not contain prohibited items. Because these events are funded through the City, they are only open to City of Jackson residents. Identification that shows City residency will be checked before you are allowed access to the drop off zone.  The latest information about the Spring Cleanup Events will be posted on the City’s Facebook page and website.

Voices and Votes:  Democracy in America.  Lost Railway Museum, Downtown Grass Lake.  Voices and Votes is based on a major exhibition currently on display at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. This Museum on Main Street adaptation will have many of the same dynamic features: historical and contemporary photos; educational and archival video; engaging multimedia interactives with short games and additional footage, photos, and information; and historical objects like campaign souvenirs, voter memorabilia, and protest material.  How do you participate as a citizen? From the revolution and suffrage, to civil rights and casting ballots, everyone in every community is part of this ever-evolving story – the story of democracy in America.  May 15 to June 27.

Toddler Tours.  Ella Sharp Museum and Hurst Planetarium at Ella Sharp Museum  11 – 11:45 AM.  It’s never too early to start visiting planetariums! Bring the little ones for a tour of shapes in the night sky and accompanying activities and art project.
