Red Cross Blood Drive.  12 p.m. – 5:45 p.m., Christ Lutheran Church, 4250 Page Avenue, Michigan Center.  The American Red Cross continues to face an emergency blood shortage. Eligible donors of all blood types are urged to give now.

Friends of the Napoleon Library Book Sale.  Calling all book bargain hunters, come to find your next literary treasure and support a great cause at the Napoleon Friends of the Library annual book sale!  Fill a provided bag for $2 all day Thursday!  All day, all week.

Mason Jar String Art.  Make your way out to the Hanover Branch of the Jackson District Library to make your own piece of Mason Jar String Art! This pretty piece of art can be adapted to any room or season, thus becoming an incredible artsy accessory.  Registration is required, so contact Hanover at (517) 905-1399 today to reserve your spot! Intended for Adults.  5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive.   The effort brings together four organizations: United Way of Jackson County, the Jackson Human Relations Commission, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in Jackson County, and the Martin Luther King Community Center. These agencies, along with the Jackson County Intermediate School District and other sponsors, will offer a total of 20 dropbox locations across Jackson County. Some will park a school bus at their location so residents can drop off newly purchased school supplies.
Those who don’t have time to shop can donate by credit card by texting STUFF to 40403, with 100 percent of those gifts going to purchase school supplies.
Items will be distributed to students through local school districts, the upcoming Back to School Bash at the King Center, and the DHHS foster care youth program.  The bus itself will appear throughout Jackson County during the week of Aug. 13-17.  Today:    10 a.m.-noon, at United Way of Jackson County, 536 E. Jackson St. (special broadcast featuring HOME.fm from 10-noon).

The Nixon Water Parkis open with sessions today:   11 AM to 2 PM, 2:15 PM to 5:15 PM and 5:30 PM to 7 PM.  $4 per person.  Evening session is $2.  Ten swim passes are available for $32 (2 free sessions).  There is a picnic area and light concessions are available for purchase.  Patrons are allowed to bring in small coolers (no glass containers).  Nixon Water Park, 400 East North Street.

Tobacco Free Support Group.  The Jackson Tobacco Reduction Coalition and the Smoke Free Health Action Team are pleased to promote the services of a new FREE peer led support group in Jackson County.  This support group is designed for those who are interested in becoming tobacco free and those who have already quit and want to remain tobacco free.  If you are interested in going to a support group where you can share your thoughts and feelings about trying to quit in a safe and confidential space, this is the spot for you.  Plan to join this support group which meets Every Monday evening 7 PM to 8:30 PM, Carnegie Branch, Jackson District Library, Downtown Jackson.

The Jackson YMCA Turning Point Program Open House.  Learn more about the Turning Point Program for breast cancer survivors.  Membership, classes and companionship are offered for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.  Classes include yoga, strength and conditioning, and aqua fitness as well as free membership for those who meet certain requirements.  Jackson YMCA Downtown Branch, 127 West Wesley Street.  Open House hours are 6 PM to 8 PM.

AARP Fraud Watch Network.  Join in a discussion about how to spot and avoid identity theft and fraud so you can protect yourself and your family.  We will provide valuable tips and insight to fight against fraud.  Jackson District Library, Carnegie Branch.  2 PM to 4 PM.  Free of charge for everyone.
