Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Day.  Join us Monday, January 20 2020 at 10am at Second Missionary Baptist Church Baptist Church.  41st Annual Jackson County NAACP MLK Service Day.  Program Starts at 10am sharp.  Keynote Speaker will be the dynamic Ms Quinnette Lindsey.  The theme this year is “Are we in the fight, or are we in the way?”  We will have light refreshments, coffee and punch directly after the program.  304 East Prospect Street, Jackson.

MLK Jr. Celebration Chapel Service.  SAU will be hosting a Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Chapel on Monday, Jan. 20 at 11:00 a.m. in White Auditorium. Our guest speaker will be Sho Baraka, who will deliver a sermon, followed by a lunch conversation with faculty, staff, students and community members. The sermon and conversation is entitled “Remembering Dr. King. Where do we go from here? 51 years after his death.”  Sho has traveled the world as a recording artist, culture curator and activist. He is a three-time Billboard charting, award-nominated artist, founding member of internationally known hip-hop group 116 Clique, and founder of Forth District and the AND Campaign. Sho’s overseas work has ranged from leading seminars about race relations in South Africa to establishing artist hubs in Indonesia.  White Auditorium, Spring Arbor University, 106 E. Main Street, Spring Arbor.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Forum.  Join in a discussion of “The African American Community, Law Enforcement and Mass Incarceration,” theme of the 2020 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Forum on Central Campus.  A panel comprised of community, campus and state leaders will discuss the issue, with opportunity for audience participation. All are welcome to this free event.  2 PM, Bert Walker Hall, Jackson College Central Campus.

MLK Day Fundraiser at Grand River Brewery.  Pack the house in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day!  A portion of all revenue will be donated to Parkside Middle School for their 3rd Annual Celebration of Academic Excellence Event at the Potter Center, February 22nd.    Enjoy scratch-made food for breakfast, lunch, or dinner while supporting your local community schools!  7 AM to 10 PM, Grand River Brewery.

Jackson College Winter Film Series:  “East of Eden”.  In the Salinas Valley, in and around World War I, Cal Trask feels he must compete against overwhelming odds with his brother Aron for the love of their father Adam. Cal is frustrated at every turn, from his reaction to the war, to how to get ahead in business and in life, to how to relate to estranged mother.  Based on the novel by John Steinbeck.  Director:  Elia Kazan.  Starring James Dean, Raymond Massey, Julie Harris.  For 44 years, Jackson College has offered their prestigious film class at The Michigan Theatre of Jackson. The year 2020 is no exception. Instructor, Dave DeBaker offers his insights into some monumental films every week.  Admission to the public is $5.  Doors open at 6:30 pm.  The auditorium opens at 7:00 pm.  Film begins at 7:15 pm.  Michigan Theatre, Downtown Jackson.

No School Day at Allskate.  Celebrate No School with us on Martin Luther King Jr. Day! 1-5pm Admission is only $6, skate rentals are $4, Skate mates are $5 + deposit. Laser Tag will be available for $6 per game. Family Fun Pack only $48 includes: Skating, rental skates, 10 game tokens each, 1 game of Laser Tag each for (4) people.
