Jackson County Free Museum Day.  Jackson County Museums welcome visitors to experience all there is to offer at their locations, featuring free admission on Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 10 am – 4 pm. Participating museums will host an “open-house style” reception and self-guided tours, alongside child-friendly activities, historical demonstrations and more during the event. With Museum Day intentionally planned on Mother’s Day weekend, it is a great opportunity for families to get together and learn more about their community’s history while checking some local museums off their bucket list.  Each museum will also be giving away a unique Museum Day prize basket on site.  Complete list of museums and more information here.

Jackson Reads.  Jackson Reads is partnering with Ella Sharp Museum for another book giveaway on Saturday, May 10, 2025! Jackson READS! is teaming up with the Ella Sharp Museum to give away THOUSANDS of FREE books to kids from birth to 8th grade! Our theme this year is “Adventure Awaits”, so get ready to explore!  Join us for:  HUGE book giveaway, Author signings, Fun STEM activities, Free yummy snacks.  Explore the beautiful Museum grounds! Bring the whole family for a day of reading fun and discovery! We can’t wait to see you there!

40 Years in the Hood:  The Detroit Heidelberg Project Exhibition.  Opening Day.  Witness an extraordinary exhibition curated by renowned Detroit-based artist Tyree Guyton, whose work has transformed the art world and inspired communities for over 40 years. Tyree Guyton is best known for his iconic Heidelberg Project, which has turned discarded objects into powerful symbols of community, resilience, and hope. “Armed with a paintbrush, a broom, and neighborhood children, Guyton and Grandpa began by cleaning up vacant lots on Heidelberg Street”. Thank you to the Charles Aymond Foundation and Arlo Steel for sponsoring 40 Years in the Hood: Detroit’s Heidelberg Project. THANK YOU to The Heidelberg Project for making this exhibit accessible to Jackson’s youth, neighborhoods, and surrounding communities. ESM admission rates are waived from May 10th to October 26th!  Ella Sharp Museum.

Career Center Plant Sale.  Get your gardens ready! The Jackson Area Career Center will be opening its greenhouses for the 17th annual Agriscience/FFA Plant and Flower Sale on Saturday, May 10, from 8am – 12pm. A variety of annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and hanging baskets will be available for purchase. The complete variety list and pricing can be found at www.jacc-mi.net. Money raised from the annual sale helps support important hands-on learning experiences for students, including student scholarships, FFA memberships costs, and the National Convention trip. Customers will have to follow a traffic flow to help limit the amount of people entering the sale. Students will be available to help people grab baskets, carry plants and load purchases in vehicles. The Career Center greenhouses are located at 6800 Browns Lake Road in Jackson, across from Jackson College. Cash and credit/debit will be accepted.

Grand River Farmers Market.  9 AM to 2 PM.  Seasonal veggies & fruits, fresh flowers, meats, cheeses, breads, sweets, and all kinds of other wonderful things! Corner of Mechanic and Glick, Downtown Jackson.

City Cleanup Day.  The City of Jackson is holding a City Cleanup Day on Saturday, May 10 to help residents clean up their properties. From 7 to 11:30 a.m., Jackson residents are invited to bring yard waste and general household trash to the DPW Operations Center, which is located at 521 Water Street. The event is free and only open to City of Jackson residents. Residents should stay in their vehicles and drive through the drop off zones, entering Water Street using Morrell Street, and exiting using Franklin Street. Please assist with the removal of items from your vehicle if you are able.  Yard waste, such as grass clippings and brush are accepted, along with household trash like boxes and furniture.

SOAR Cafe Mother’s Day Weekend Brunch.  10 AM to 12 PM.  Mother’s Day is coming, and a perfect time to spend with your mom, or any special women in your life, at our upcoming Mother’s Day Brunch – “When Women Come Together” Love Rises! We will host brunch in our beautiful Hope Room at SOAR Cafe, there will be a live auction of some beautiful and fun gift baskets, a survivor testimony, and of course some delicious food. Good Shepherd Catholic Radio Dinner and Fundraiser. 6 PM.  Come join us for Mass at the Lumen Christi Chapel at 5 PM. Bishop Boyea will be the celebrant – seating is limited.  Immediately after Mass, join us for an evening of dinner and talk featuring Dr. Marcus Peter, host of Ave Maria Radio in the Afternoon heard on EWTN and Ave Maria radio stations worldwide.  Tickets are $50 and available here.

Hidden Lake Gardens Plant Sale.  Join us for a one-day-only event at Hidden Lake Gardens, featuring a wide selection of plants including annuals, perennials, woody plants, dwarf conifers, succulents, vegetable plants, and herbs. Special Member Preview: 9:00–10:00 a.m. (Cardholding members only—no guests, please) Open to the Public: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. or until sold out.  Hidden Lake Gardens, Tipton.

Jeans N Classics and the Jackson Symphony Orchestra. 7 PM.  The Music of Billy Joel and Elton John. The Jackson Symphony Orchestra, a live band presented by Jeans ‘n Classics, and a powerful choir come together to celebrate the greatest hits of Billy Joel and Elton John. From the iconic ‘Piano Man’ to the legendary ‘Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me,’ this concert will have you singing along and enjoying a magical evening of timeless hits. Jeans ‘n Classics has been bringing their impressive symphonic rock catalogue to symphony audiences for the past 2+ decades. Local Authors Expo & 6th Annual Book Fair.  12 PM to 6 PM.  Meet local authors, writers, and entrepreneurs.  A Southside Festival Series Event.  C-Store and Deli, 1202 MLK Jr Drive, Jackson.  Meet two dozen authors, book sales and signings, FREE entry, open buffet for purchase!

Heart of the Lakes Rummage Sale. 9 AM – 12 PM.  Join Us for the Annual Rummage Sale at Heart O’ the Lakes!  Find great deals while supporting a great cause! All proceeds from our Annual Rummage Sale go directly to missions. Photography Class.  May is National Photography Month.  The Jackson District Library suggests now is the perfect time to level up your photography skills. Free classes will be offered throughout the month at the Eastern Branch in partnership with the Jackson Camera Club. These classes are perfect for tweens, teens, and adults with an interest in photography. May 10, 2-3:30 PM | Portrait Photography.  Registration is not required, and you are welcome to attend any (or all) of the classes. The Jackson Camera Club will also have an art exhibit on display at the Eastern Branch during the month of May. Stop by during open hours to enjoy the work of Jackson’s photographers.

Napoleon Lions Fly-in and Drive-in Pancake Breakfast.  8 AM to 11 AM.  Menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, juice, sausage gravy and biscuits, juice, milk and coffee.  Public invited, donations accepted.  Napoleon Lions Park, Russler Pavilion, 7935 Napoleon Road.
