Most Teens Don’t Zombie Walk and Movie.  Join us for a night of family fun and help send students to Washington, D.C.  Zombie Walk, per donation, begins at 5 PM around downtown Jackson.  4:30 PM Check in at Blackman Park.  Live music, prizes for best costumes and makeup.  Family friendly movie (Hotel Transylvania 2) at 6 PM at the Michigan Theatre.  Snacks, soda and zombie t-shirts will be available for purchase.

Jackson Percussion Concussion.  An opportunity for local youth to learn and perform with professional drumlines.  7 PM, Potter Center Music Hall, Jackson College.  Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for students and children.  Drumline performances by Detroit Pistons, Jackson College, Michigan State University, Columbia Central, East Jackson, Mason, Northwest, Napoleon and Springport.

The Sandstone Congregational Church will be hosting its Swiss Steak Dinner on October 24,  2018 from 4-6 p.m.  The menu will be Swiss Steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, cole slaw, vegetables, rolls, beverage and dessert.  The cost is $9.  The Fellowship Center is on the lower level.  Parking is available at both the lower and upper level with elevator access to the lower level. Candidate Forum.  Candidates running for local office will participate in the forum hosted by Jackson District Library, League of Women Voters and the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce.  6 PM, Jackson Symphony Orchestra Weatherwax Hall, 215 West Michigan Avenue.  The forum will include a moderator charged with taking questions from the audience and presenting them to the candidates present, as well as prepared questions.  Invited candidates include Michigan Senate and House and Jackson County Commission candidates.

Building Great Dads The Fatherhood Project.  Fifth meeting.  7 to 8:30 PM, Grand River Brewery.  All Dads welcome.  Snacks provided.  This series is open to all men of all ages and hosted by St. John the Evangelist Church.  More info at facebook.com/saintjohnjackson.  Tonight’s topic:  How fathers can be preparers. 

Hackett Auto Museum Speaker Series:  An Evening with Jim Hinckley.  Jim Hinckley will kick off the 2018-2019 Hackett Auto Museum Speaker Series on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at Jackson Makerspace (formerly Tomlinson Elementary School), located at 730 Tomlinson St. There will be a suggested $5 donation at the door.  Jim is a former Associate Editor of Cars and Parts Magazine, author of multiple books and a national expert on Route 66, America’s Main Street.  In 2013, Jim started “Jim Hinckley’s America,” which began as a weekly radio show in New Mexico. The show chronicles the grand adventure on Route 66 and the road less traveled. Jim returns to his roots in Jackson with a presentation on the evolution that gave rise to Route 66 and the Good Roads Movement.
