Harold White Sr. Awards Breakfast.  Join the City of Jackson Human Relations Commission as they honor the life and memory of Harold White Sr. with our annual awards breakfast. We are very excited to announce that Paula Autry, President and CEO, of Henry Ford Allegiance Health will be our guest speaker and Bart Hawley will be this year’s MC.  This year we will be honoring three recipients that have been leaders in the community in regards to Diversity, Inclusion and Volunteer efforts. This years winners are Bright Walls – Diversity, Jackson Pride – Inclusion, and Wanda Beavers – Volunteerism. $25.  7:30 AM, Cascades Manor.

Red Cross Blood Drive.   1 p.m. – 6:45 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 743 West Michigan, Jackson.

Call for Adult Literacy Tutors Informational Meetings.  The Jackson District Library is looking for adults to tutor other adults in the community in developing literacy skills.  This is a volunteer position with a 6 month – 1 year commitment of at least 1 hour a week. There are 30 spots available for tutors.  Tutors will receive a 2 week training beginning November 4 as well as all supplies needed. JDL will be here to support you every step of the way!  Anyone interested in becoming a tutor is encouraged to register for an informational meeting held at the Carnegie Library the following dates:  October 9, 7-8 PM or October 21, 4-5 PM.  To learn more or to register, contact Becca Skau at skaur@myjdl.com or 517-905-1304.

Making Your Mark:  Community Art.  This fall, we will have a large paint-by-the-numbers that will be chosen and painted by the community! The finished piece will be displayed in the Carnegie Library.  Here’s how to participate:  October 8-14: Vote for your favorite piece to be painted by stopping by the Carnegie Library or vote on Facebook by “liking” your favorite piece.  November 10, 2-4 PM: Join us in the Carnegie Library to paint!  For questions, contact the Carnegie Library at 517-788-4087.
