Girls basketball

Grass Lake 82, East Jackson 42: Gabi Lutchka scored 24 points and Kate Starkey added 23 points for Grass Lake. The Warriors are playing a number of freshmen and sophomores in the lineup due to the injury to Lexus Bargesser – who is not expected to be back this season. “The additional playing time is helping to build their confidence,” GLHS Coach Andrea Cabana said. “They are getting more playing time earlier than expected.” East Jackson was led by Mariah Kerley with 21 points. 

Hanover-Horton 48, Addison 28: Morgan Kuhl scored 17 points and Aly Ackley added 10 points for the Comets. 

Napoleon 37, Manchester 32: The Pirates earned its first win of the season as Kelsey Bradley scored 14 points and Momo Hampton and Emily Smilowski each scored seven points. 

Bellevue 38, Jackson Christian 18

Wrestling

Napoleon 41, Hillsdale 30: The Pirates earned a win at Sand Creek over Hillsdale. Deegan Herman (125), Ian Albert (145), Mason Roth (152), and Brady Brooks (285) earned pins for the Pirates. The second match against Quincy was not posted.  

East Jackson at Whitmore Lake: East Jackson earned a split with a 42-24 loss against the home team, but came back with a 39-18 win against Gabriel Richard. Dylan Osborne (285) and Julius Ferrell (125) earned pins for the Trojans against Whitmore Lake.  Colton Raffensburger (160), Maverick Cooper (171), Osborne (285), and Stephen Hertzfeld (112) all earned pins against Gabriel Richard.   

Jackson at Tecumseh Quad: The Vikings earned a split, losing 40-31 to the host school but defeating Lincoln 72-9. Kyle Bonner (285), Trevor Morehouse (112), and Colin Hoover (119) earned pins against the Indians. Jesse Lusby (152), Andrew Covalle (160), Jaylon Riggins (171), Bonner (285), Hoover (119), and Jayden Potter (125) all earned pins against Lincoln.    

Lumen Christi, Michigan Center at Coldwater: Coldwater defeated Lumen Christi 54-24 in one of the matches. Travis Frederick (125), Tobin Okoniewski (130), Orlando Gutierrez (135), and Reid Garcia (140) all earned pins against Coldwater. No scores were posted for Michigan Center. 

Western 60, Northwest 21: Western competed against Northwest in their first conference dual of the season and came away with a 60-21 victory.  Winners for Western were Kaden Engelter, Titan Parker, Quinn Ferris, Lincoln Raczkowski, Collin Doederlein, Nolan Wahtola, Jacob Singleton, Gage Parker, Alex Trudell, and Dominic Honsinger.  The Panthers are 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.  

Competitive cheer

LCAA jamboree at Hillsdale: Columbia Central High School finished sixth (540) at the first Lenawee County Athletic Association jamboree of the season.  

East Jackson, Lumen Christi, Northwest at Leslie Inv.: Leslie won the competition with 598 for the three rounds. Northwest was second (576), Lumen Christi placed third (568), and East Jackson was seventh (457).  

Boys Bowling

Columbia Central 26, Hillsdale 4: Caleb Gritzmaker scored a 223 and Keegan Lewis finished with a 341 series for the Golden Eagles.  

Grass Lake defeated Napoleon: Dustin Moeckel rolled a 430 series for the Pirates.  

Chelsea 30, Jackson 0

Jonesville 17, Hanover-Horton 13: Bryce Blackledge rolled a 405 series, Jack Kittel finished with a 212 game, and Layne Holda bowled a 201 game for the Comets. 

Girls Bowling

Hillsdale 26, Columbia Central 4: Niya Holbert rolled a 173 game for the Golden Eagles. Morelei Mortimer finished with a 282 series.  

Napoleon 17, Grass Lake 13: Natasha Eastridge rolled a personal-best 208 game and Samantha Burgess rolled a 336 series for the Pirates.  

Jackson 16, Chelsea 15: The two teams tied, but Jackson High School won on total pins. It is the first win of the season for the Vikings. 

Hockey

Mattawan 4, Jackson 1: The win stops JU’s five-game winning streak. Kully Miotke scored the only goal for JU with assists going to Drew Bonser and Riley Rogers. Easton Craig was in net for JU. 

Gymnastics

Jackson Area Gymnastics 137.6, Western 123.35  The defending state champions from Jackson Area Gymnastics earned a home win to open their conference season. Jackson took all four places in all four events as Alyssa Budd of Napoleon swept all of the first places. She took first in the vault (8.875), won the bars (8.3), was victorious in the beam (8.725), and won the floor (9.35). Teammate Jenna Bradley took second in all four events with a high score on the floor exercise of 9.250. Shelby Koehler led Western with an 8.45 on the vault and Maria Macchia tallied 8.25 on the floor exercise. 

Post Season

Olando Trader of Jackson High School has signed a national letter to play football at the University of Iowa next season.
