Concord 63, Union City 33: Concord earned a Big Eight Conference win at home on Saturday night. 

Wrestling 

MHSAA Individual Regional Tournaments

Division 1 at Lowell: Jaylon Riggins of Jackson was the only one of six Vikings to advance to the state meet. Riggins – who finished third at the state meet a year ago – earned a regional championship at 160 pounds during the individual meet at Lowell High School. 

Division 2 at Niles: Four wrestlers from Northwest and three from Western advanced to the state meet during the D-2 regional individual tournament at Niles. Here are the qualifiers in D-2: Lincoln Raczkowski, Western, 130 pounds, regional champion; Gage Race, Northwest, 135, third place; Jacob Singleton, Western, 145, fourth place; Zach Jacobs, Northwest, 152, second place; Braden Gariety, Northwest, 160, fourth place; Adam Haselius, Northwest, 189, regional champion; and Dominic Honsinger, Western, 285, regional champion. 

Division 3 at Constantine: Seven of the 12 wrestlers from Napoleon will advance to the state finals. Here are the qualifiers: Antonio Bocanegra, Napoleon, 103, second place; Brenden Yob, Napoleon, 112, fourth place; Deegan Herman, Napoleon, 125, fourth place; Mason Roth, Napoleon, 152, second place; Nick Marienfeld, Napoleon, 160, regional champion; Bart Laretz, Napoleon, 171, third place; and Brady Brooks, Napoleon, 285, second place. 

Division 4 at Lutheran Westland: Nine area wrestlers earned trips to the Michigan High School Athletic Association state finals March 4, 5, at Ford Field in Detroit. Here are the qualifiers: Stephen Hertzfeld, East Jackson, 103, regional champion; Sam Edie, Grass Lake, 112, second place; David Fielder, Hanover-Horton, 119, regional champion; Travis Frederick, Lumen Christi, 125, second place; Tobin Okoniewski, Lumen Christi, 130, fourth place; Reid Garcia, Lumen Christi, 135, second place; Josh Frailey, Hanover-Horton, 152, third place; Jack Reid, Grass Lake, 189, fourth place; and Dylan Osborne, East Jackson, 215, fourth place. 

Division 4 at Lawton: Springport had seven of eight wrestlers qualify for the state finals in Division 4. Here are the qualifiers: David Becker, Springport, 125, second place; Benjamin Butler, Springport, 130, second place; Joe Sunkle, Springport, 135, regional champion; Chase Caudill, Springport, 135, third place; Rylinn Hale, Springport, 145, fourth place; Dylan Sanford, Springport, 152, third place; and Matt Riehle, Springport, 160, second place.

Bowling

LCAA singles tournament (Ten Pin): Columbia Central won the boys’ championship based on jamboree scores and the conference finals. Jake Luna and Caleb Gritzmaker of CCHS earned first-team all-conference honors based on scoring averages – finishing in the top five. Brayden Steele was 10th in scoring averages to earn second-team honors and Nikolas Raab earned honorable-mention all-conference honors. In the girls’ event, Columbia Central finished second overall. Niya Holbert finished fifth overall in scoring for CCHS to earn first-team all-conference honors. Shanna Dettloff of Columbia Central finished seventh in scoring averages, good for second-team all-conference. McKenzie Fall earned honorable-mention all-conference honors by finishing 13th. 

Interstate-8 Conference Finals: The Mounties dominated the Interstate-8 Conference singles tournament at JAX 60. Cody Hall finished first, Shon Breslin was second, and Ryan Wenman placed third for the Mounties in the boys’ event. Douglas Putnam was ninth and Damein Milliman was 10th for Northwest. All five earned all-conference honors. Logan Jahr and Kolbe Hamlin were 11th and 15th respectively for honorable-mention honors. 

Hockey

Jackson United defeated Chelsea: Jackson United hockey finished the regular season with a home win against Chelsea. The team is 12-12 heading into the Michigan High School Athletic Association playoffs.

Wrestling

MHSAA Girls’ Regionals

Blue Regional at Hartford: Columbia Central and Jackson will be part of a 90-team regional at Hartford High School on Sunday. The top eight in each weight class earn a trip to the Michigan High School Athletic Association state wrestling finals. 

Red Regional at Howell: East Jackson, Grass Lake, and Hanover-Horton will participate in a nearly 100-team regional at Howell High School on Sunday. The top eight in each weight class earn a trip to the Michigan High School Athletic Association state wrestling finals.
