Baseball

East Jackson 10, Lansing Eastern 6: Austin McKessy had two RBIs and stole two bases for the Trojans. On the mound, Gabe Harmon struck out six batters for EJHS.

East Jackson 7, Lansing Eastern 1: Hayden Wilson struck out six batters and did not give up a hit through four innings of work for East Jackson. 

Michigan Center 9, Columbia Central 3: Daylen Hinkle and Brendan O’Dowd recorded three hits apiece for the Cardinals in the win. Ryan Ladd struck out three batters for the Golden Eagles. 

Madison 7, Concord 5: Adrian Madison scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a 5-5 game. Adam Richardson struck out four batters for the Yellow Jackets. 

Madison 13, Concord 7: Pitcher Ross Weeks struck out three batters for Concord. 

Western 16, Pinckney 13: The Panthers won a slugfest on the road Friday night. Cal Sharp hit a home run, collected three hits, and knocked in six runs for Western. The Panthers scored six times in the top of the seventh inning to pull out the win.

Pinckney 9, Western 8: Pinckney High School scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out the win. Caden Oliver had two hits for Western and knocked in two runs in the game.  

Softball

Hillsdale 17, Concord 8: Karlee Gamet struck out six batters in five innings of work for Concord. 

Hillsdale 13, Concord 5: A nine-run inning for Hillsdale spelled doom for the Yellow Jackets. Haylie Kowalski recorded three hits and three RBIs for Concord. 

Western 11, Leslie 5: Ashley Williams recorded three hits and knocked in five runs for the Panthers. Hailey Whisman struck out 12 batters on the mound for Western (9-5).  

Leslie 8, Western 4: The Blackhawks scored eight times in the top of the seventh inning to pull out the win. Jaymee Herrington and Riley Kubiak had two hits apiece for Western. 

Track and field

Addison Relays: Onsted and Madison high schools won the girls’ and boys’ competitions, respectively. Michigan Center was fifth and Columbia Central eighth in the girls’ meet. The Cardinals were third and CCHS fifth in the boys’ meet. Jacob Walker won the 1,600-meter run (4:45) for CCHS and the Cardinals won the 1,600-meter relay (3:47) with a team of Jaiden Tilford, Joe Olkowski, Ethan Prokos, and Michael VanRiper. Elly Trefry of Michigan Center won the pole vault (8-0) in the girls’ competition. 

Concord at Union City Invite: Concord High School won the boys’ meet with 171 points, easily outdistancing Quincy (117.5). Jackson Prep & Early College finished seventh in the boys’ meet and eighth in the girls. Concord girls finished fourth in their meet. The Yellow Jackets won all four relays taking the 400-meter relay in 46.33 seconds; winning the 800-meter relay in 1:37; running 3:43 in the 1,600-meter relay; and finishing the 3,200-meter relay in 8:48. 

Jackson at Lincoln Invitational: Jackson High School finished fifth in the boys’ event and sixth in the girls. Olando Trader broke the 11-second mark in winning the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.99 seconds. Chadwick Perrine also won the 3,200-meter run for Jackson in 10:24. 

Napoleon at Hillsdale Invitational: Napoleon High School finished third in the girls’ event and sixth in the boys. Freshman Holden VanPoppel won the 110-meter hurdles in 16.76 seconds for the Pirates. 

Mason Invitational: Hanover-Horton finished sixth in the boys’ meet and eighth in the girls. Dean Reynolds won the 400-meter run (53.29 seconds) and first in the 800-meter run (2:03) for the Comets. Rogan Melling won the 3,200-meter run in 10:06. Kathryn Childs won the 100-meter high hurdles for Hanover-Horton in 16.8 seconds in the girls’ meet. 

Girls’ soccer

Grass Lake 4, Columbia Central 0: Grass Lake has won three matches in a row while the Golden Eagles have dropped three consecutive matches. Ella Kraus scored a hat trick for the Warriors and Karly Penhallegon earned the shutout in goal with 15 saves. 

Jackson 2, Tecumseh 1: Sydney Langley and Liv Perrine scored for the Vikings. 

Boys’ golf

Western Invitational: Hanover-Horton High School won the Western Invitational at Arbor Hills Golf Club on Friday. The Comets finished with a four-man total of 316. Leslie was second (337), Jackson placed third (356), Lumen Christi finished fourth (368), Northwest was fifth (370), Napoleon placed sixth (381), Western was ninth (384), East Jackson placed 11th (393), and Grass Lake was 13th (414). Evan Brzynski of Napoleon earned the medalist honors with a 1-under par round of 71. Brogan Brockie of Hanover-Horton placed third (73), teammate Kyler Rod tied for fourth (74) with Jackson golfer Colin Norton, Ben Maino of East Jackson finished sixth (80), Justin Bunch of Jackson placed ninth (81), and Brady Applegate of Hanover-Horton finished 10th (84). 

Girls’ tennis

Western 4, Jackson 4: Jackson High School won all four singles’ matches, and the Panthers took all four doubles’ contests. Harshita Rathod won a tough 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 match at No. 1 singles for the Vikings. 

Lumen Christi 6, Kalamazoo Christian 2 

PGA Tour

Brian Stuard of Jackson missed the cut at the Valspar Championship on the PGA Tour. Stuard finished with a round of 73 on Friday, missing the cut by three shots.
