Boys basketball

Concord 85, Springport 46: The Yellow Jackets earned a Big Eight Conference win on the road Saturday. The game was rescheduled from last week. 

Vandercook Lake 69, Hanover-Horton 63: The Jayhawks earned a home win in a Cascades Conference action on Saturday night. VCL is now 10-0 on the season. Jermaine Buckner scored 25 points and dished seven assists for VCL. Eric Wilson scored 20 points, Demarion Smith scored 16 points, and Tyrell Showers pulled down 17 rebounds for the Jayhawks. 


Jackson at Kalamazoo Central Inv.: Gabe Hoover finished second at 135 pounds for Jackson; Jesse Lusby placed third at 152 pounds for the Vikings; Caden Bayer of Jackson finished third at 130 pounds; and Colin Hoover placed fourth at 119 pounds. Sienna Tovar of Jackson won the Girls D (135-145) weight class with three wins. Natalie Tobey was second in the Girls F (160-171) weight class going 1-1 on the day. 

Northwest at Lowell Inv.: The Mounties were 0-3 on the day with losses to John Glenn, Clinton, and Thornapple Kellogg. Adam Haselius and Alfredo Menzoza were undefeated on the day for Northwest. 

Western at Holt Inv.: Western High School finished seventh out of 16 squads in a team tournament. The Panthers were 3-2 on the day, going 2-1 in pool play. Seniors Lincoln Raczkowski and Dominic Honsinger continue to be undefeated on the season at 29-0. Kaden Engelter, A.J. Eichenberg, and Jacob Singleton were 4-1 on the day for Western (22-5).    

Hudson Super 16 Tournament: Clayton Clark of Michigan Center finished sixth at 145 pounds. Trevor Kilpatrick finished first in the “B” tournament on Friday at 152 pounds for the Trojans. Stephen Hertzfeld was third for East Jackson at 103 pounds and Matt Riehle of Springport was second at 160 pounds.

Michigan Center Invitational: Michigan Center won the Division 3 tournament with a score of 704.4. Columbia Central finished third overall with 568. Hudson won the overall title for the day with 752 – winning the D-4 competition. Hanover-Horton was second (667) and Concord was third (595). 


Mel Wolf Invitational (girls): Both Grass Lake and Napoleon advanced to the stepladder portion of the tournament at JAX 60. The Warriors finished the qualifying (two individual games and four Baker games) with 2,155. Napoleon was eighth scoring 1,958. Airport High School defeated Grass Lake in the stepladder and top-seeded Charlotte defeated the Pirates in the opening round. Georgia Barrus scored a personal-best 187 game for Napoleon. Hanover-Horton finished 16th (1,741), Northwest was 17th (1,601), Western placed 18th (1,510), Michigan Center took 19th place (1,429), and Vandercook Lake was 20th (1,223)


Jackson 6, Bedford 1: Jackson United won on the road in Toledo on Saturday night. JU is now 9-7 on the season.
