Boys’ High School Golf

Division 1 at Forest Akers West: Jackson High School golfer Justin Bunch earned a top-10 medal at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 golf finals at Forest Akers West Golf Course. Bunch shot a 74 on Saturday and finished with a two-day total of 147. He finished eighth overall in the tournament.

 

Division 3 at The Meadows Golf Course: Hanover-Horton High School finished tied for second at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 state finals at The Meadows Golf Course near Grand Valley State University. The Comets finished with a two-day total of 640 to tie Big Rapids. Grand Rapids Catholic Central won the tournament with 623. Big Rapids will go into the history book as the runner-up based on the teams fifth-man’s score. Brogan Brockie finished fourth individually with a two-day total of 147. Sophomore Ryder Pickering shot a 77 for the Comets on Saturday and Kyler Rod finished with a two-day total of 158. Evan Brzyski of Napoleon finished seventh overall with a two-day total of 149. He shot a 1-under-par 71 on Saturday. Cannon Risner of Leslie finished second individual scoring 145 for two days. P.J. Maybank of Cheboygan won the individual tournament scoring 135 – 9 under par. 

Division 4 at The Fortress: Ben Maino of East Jackson High School finished 18th overall at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 state golf finals at The Fortress Golf Course near Frankenmuth. Maino shot an 85 on Saturday to finish the tournament at 164. It took a score of 157 to earn a top-10 finish. 

Baseball

Division 3Riverview Gabriel Richard 1, Lumen Christi 0: Riverview scored one run in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull out the regional final win. Brody Dalton struck out six hitters in more than seven innings pitched for LCCHS. Garrett Swan had a pair of hits for Lumen Christi (18-14). 

Division 4 – Concord 7, Three Oaks River Valley 6: The Yellow Jackets scored five times in the fourth inning to pull out the regional title. Riley Nieswender pitched six innings and struck out seven batters for Concord on the mound. The Cardiac Kids from Concord lost in the quarterfinal round against Kalamazoo Hackett, 8-7 in eight innings. Hackett scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to advance to the Division 4 final four. Bobby Ward knocked in two runs and pitched more than five innings on the mound for Concord (20-23). 

 

Softball

Division 3 – Clinton 4, Napoleon 1: Clinton scored three times in the first inning and never trailed in the regional semifinal. Becca Daoust had two hits for Napoleon in the loss. The Pirates end the season with a 27-9 record. 

Division 4 – Vandercook Lake 8, Dansville 7 (8 innings): Vandercook Lake earned the win in the eighth inning in the regional semifinal. The Jayhawks lost 20-0 to Ottawa Lake in the regional final at Concord High School.
