Baseball

Napoleon 4, Grass Lake 2: Napoleon advances to the Cascades Conference Baseball Tournament final with a road win at Grass Lake. Jason Negus pitched a complete game for Napoleon, striking out eight batters. Lucas Hankis had three hits and two RBIs for the Pirates. Napoleon will travel to Michigan Center on Monday for the conference final. Brayden Lape knocked in both runs for Grass Lake. 

Michigan Center 3, Addison 0: Daylen Hinkle pitched a shutout for Michigan Center in the Cascades Conference Baseball Tournament semifinal at home. Hinkle struck out nine batters in pitching the complete game. Brendan O’Dowd had two hits and Dawson Swetland knocked in two runs for Michigan Center.  

Manchester 16, Vandercook Lake 3: Camren Lackey had a double and knocked in two runs for Vandercook Lake. 

East Jackson 11, Hanover-Horton 8: East Jackson scored seven runs in the second inning. Logan Stump finished with four hits and three runs for the Trojans. Landon Roberts finished with two hits and two RBIs for East Jackson. Braylon Sayles had four hits and Luke Soper finished with two hits and two RBIs for Hanover-Horton. 

Concord 14, Quincy 1: The Yellow Jackets finished a game from earlier in the season. Logan Lamb hit a home run and Tyler Carpenter, Levi Raymond, and Dustin Hamilton each had two hits for Concord.  

Adrian 7, Jackson 2: Jacob Nichols finished 2-for-3 at the plate for the Vikings (9-19). 

Western 5, Leslie 1: Nolan Wheeler had three hits and Caden Oliver recorded two hits and knocked in three runs for Western. 

Western 23, Leslie 12: Jack LaPorte finished with four hits and seven RBIs for Western in the win. Dalton Heavy recorded three hits and knocked in four runs and Caden Oliver and Drew Braun each finished with two hits and three RBIs for Western (13-14). 

Softball

Grass Lake 9, Dundee 6: Katelyn Postuma and Emily Brown hit home runs for Grass Lake. Postuma drove in four runs for the Warriors. 

Grass Lake 7, Dundee 6: Grass Lake scored in the bottom of the seventh inning on a bases-loaded walk. Emily Guthrie hit a homer and Olivia Turner had two hits and knocked in two runs for Grass Lake (25-3). 

Jackson 9, Ann Arbor Huron 8: Felicia Huffman, Alexis Bennett, and Neveah Yenne knocked in two runs apiece for Jackson. 

Northwest 11, Michigan Center 1: Grace Pilaczynski hit two homers and knocked in four runs for the Mounties on Senior Night. Maddy Rowley had three hits – including a home run – for Northwest. Riley Brown hit a home run for Michigan Center in the contest. 

Northwest 14, Michigan Center 0: Nevaeh Ingram threw a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 14-of-15 batters. Katelyn Kennedy hit a home run and Campbell Kloack finished with three hits and four RBIs for Northwest (28-2). 

Western 1, Leslie 0: Hailey Whisman pitched a two-hitter, striking out 16 batters in the process. Whisman had the only hit for the Panthers at the plate. 

Western 6, Leslie 1: Ashley Sturgill hit a home run and Peyton Budd finished with two hits and two RBIs for Western (22-6). Whisman finished with 11 strikeouts on the mound for Western.  

Boys track and field

MHSAA D-3 Track Regional at Bath: Springport High School finished 15th at the D-3 regional at Bath with 1.5 points. 

Girls track and field

MHSAA D-3 Track Regional at Bath: Springport High School finished 10th with 20 points. Kaylee Kopulos finished third in the discus but had a state standard with a toss of 105 feet for the Spartans to qualify for the D-3 state finals. 

Girls soccer

Columbia Central 5, Onsted 0: Mia Taylor tied a school record with five goals in a game. Bailey Surque earned the shutout in goal for Columbia Central (9-3-3).

Boys golf

Interstate-8 Conference final: Lumen Christi won the Interstate-8 Conference title by winning the conference final at Bedford Valley Golf Course on Thursday. The Titans finished with 326, Marshall scored 328, Western finished third scoring 343, and Northwest was fourth tallying 348. Lumen Christi was led by Adam Fuller and Joshua Baker with 80s. Charlie Saunders and Brendan Stevens tallied 83s for the Titans. Jake Bradley and Eli Herrington finished with 85s for the Panthers and Bryar DeNoon and Hayden Kim finished with 86 and 87 respectively. Northwest was led by Isaac Anuszkiewicz with a 77 and Tyler Richard with 87. Anuszkiewicz finished second overall and Fuller and Baker tied for third individually. 

Girls Regional Tennis

MHSAA D-2 regional at Mason – Jackson and Northwest tied for seventh place with three points apiece. Battle Creek Lakeview (25) and East Lansing (24) finished as the top two teams at the regional. 

MHSAA D-3 regionals at Three Rivers – Western High School won the regional with 28 points. Edwardsburg finished second with 23 points. Mena Smarch won the title at No. 4 singles; Bella Brushaber/Emma Reed won the championship at No. 2 doubles; Teagan Robertson/Alena Engle won a three-set match to take the No. 3 doubles regional title; and Gabi Davis/Dru Porter won the championship at No. 4 doubles for Western. “Even though we lost a great group of four seniors last year who won the regional, this current team took up the mantle and worked hard, set high goals and fought for every point to get where they are today,” WHS Coach Brad Wilcox said. 

MHSAA D-4 regionals at Lumen Christi – Lumen Christi won the regional with 23 points and Columbia Central finished second with 16 points. It is the first time the Golden Eagles have qualified as a team since the early 2000s.

MHSAA D-2 Track Regional at Mason: Battle Creek Harper Creek, Battle Creek Pennfield, Charlotte, Eaton Rapids, Hastings, Hopkins, Lake Odessa Lakewood, Marshall, Mason, Middleville Thornapple Kellogg, Northwest, Olivet, Portland, Richland Gull Lake, Wayland, and Western. May 20, noon. 

MHSAA D-3 Track Regional at Hillsdale – Clinton, Columbia Central, Grass Lake, Hanover-Horton, Hillsdale, Homer, Hudson, Lumen Christi, Jonesville, Manchester, Michigan Center, Napoleon, Onsted, Quincy, and Union City. May 20, 2 p.m.

Girls soccer

Lumen Christi at Marshall (I-8 final) 6:30 p.m.
