Division 3 at Springport High School

Hanover-Horton 3, Grass Lake 1: Hanover-Horton High School found itself down in both of the first two games of the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 regional semifinal at Springport High School against Hanover-Horton. HHHS Coach Kortney Addleman was not worried. The Comets battled back for a 3-1 win over the Warriors advancing to the regional final. “We had a team bonding (event) at the beginning of the season and saw a collegiate team come back from 8-1 down,” Addleman said. “They (the Comets) have a lack of fear … go after every ball.” Grass Lake jumped out to a 7-3 lead in game one, but the Comets battled back to tie the score at 18-all. Alexyn DuBois served five consecutive points to pull out the win for HHHS. The Warriors led 8-3 in game two, but this time did not relinquish the lead. Olivia Turner finished with six kills in the contest for Grass Lake. Morgan Kuhl came alive for Hanover-Horton in game two with four kills and two blocks. The Comets jumped into the lead early in game three, leading 11-6. Grass Lake pulled ahead in game three, but Chelsea Russ served five consecutive points late in the game to pull out the contest. It was all Hanover-Horton early in game four as the Comets led 15-8. Kuhl added five kills in game three and finished the night with 10 kills and nine blocks for Hanover-Horton (25-19-1). Hanover-Horton junior Natalee Krage led the Comets with 40 assists and Russ tallied 18 kills. Turner finished with 15 kills for Grass Lake (26-13) and Mia Buttigieg dished 21 assists. Hanover-Horton will face Pewamo-Westphalia in the regional final Thursday at 6 p.m. at Springport High School. PWHS was a 3-0 winner over Dansville.
