Football Extra Points from Friday: East Jackson High School defeated Hanover-Horton 16-14 in football Friday night. Neither of the teams scored in the second half of the Comets’ Homecoming game. Luke Soper threw touchdown passes to Logan Blackledge and Graham Gumper for Hanover-Horton. Soper finished with 131 passing yards and Gumper caught four passes for 90 yards for the Comets. 

Speaking of good quarterback performances, Western High School backup quarterback Ty Keeler ran for 80 yards and passed for 123 yards and three touchdowns in the Panthers’ 34-7 win. Noah Berdiner caught two touchdown passes and Ben Parrott caught another for Western. Mitch Williams was a beast on defense for Western with 11 tackles, two sacks, and four tackles for loss. 

Boys cross country

Columbia Central at Clinton: The Golden Eagles finished sixth as a team at Clinton. Wyatt Vowell of CCHS finished 13th in 19:26 and teammate Jack Gorton was 20th running 20:04. 

Stockbridge Invitational: Concord High School finished eighth as a number of Jackson County schools participated in the event. East Jackson finished 16th, Napoleon was right behind the Trojans, Northwest placed 19th, and Jackson was 20th. Top local finishers included Adair Artis of Concord who was 10th (16:33), Michael Allen of East Jackson was 20th (17:01), Diego BoCole of Jackson Prep & Early College (17:17) placed 25th, Javin Mericle of East Jackson was right behind him (17:17), and Kyler Pequet of Napoleon placed 28th (17:25). 

 

Lumen Christi, Western at DeWitt Invitational: Western High School finished fourth in the D 1-2 race at DeWitt.  Cooper Singleton of Western finished fifth overall in 16:46. Lumen Christi was also fourth in the D 3-4 race. LCCHS runner Gannon Shore finished second overall in 17:05 and Isaiah Dinverno was fourth in 17:22. 

Girls cross country

Columbia Central at Clinton: The Golden Eagles only had two runners as Madilynn Milbourne ran 30:42 and teammate Katlyn Pedersen ran 31:33 to finish 29th and 31st respectively. 

Stockbridge Invitational: Napoleon High School finished 11th, Concord was 12th, and Northwest placed 14th at Stockbridge. Top local finishers included Cieara Barrett of Concord who was 16th (20:16), Chloe Khon of Northwest placed 18th (20:23), and Lauren McLain of Napoleon finished 33rd (20:53). 

Lumen Christi, Western at DeWitt Invitational: Lumen Christi Catholic High School finished second to Pewamo-Westphalia, 26-30, in the D 3-4 race. The two school posted 10-of-the-top-11 places in the race. Madison Osterberg won the race for LCCHS in 18:20, Macy Fazekas placed third in 19:37, and Layla Lopez was seventh in 20:34. Western finished eighth in the D 1-2 race. Marina Walz of Western finished 14th with a time of 21:16.
