Update:  Power restored early Sunday morning.

A power outage is affecting a portion of Downtown Jackson, causing several business to close for the day.   At approximately 6:45 AM, most of the 100 block (north-side) of West Michigan Avenue and the 100 block of West Pearl Street (south-side) lost power. Consumers Energy crews are currently working on power restoration.

Businesses closed in the affected area include The Dirty Bird, Junkyard Dog, Walt’s Health Foods, Shupbach’s Sporting Goods, Night Light, Postnet and JTV.  According to Consumers Energy spokesman Terry DeDoes, the cause of the outage is a failed transformer in an underground vault on Pearl Street. Crews need to replace the transformer to restore electric service, and need to pump water from the vault to safely work on the electric equipment. As crews determine the extent of the work needed to restore service, the online outage map will be revised with an updated restoration time estimate.   The current estimated time of restoration is 3 AM Sunday.

JTV is off air and programming on both JTV and JTV.TV will resume when power is restored. JTV thanks you for your patience.
