(March 28, 2020 1:26 PM) The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Grand River at Jackson affecting Jackson County.

Between 1 and 2 inches of rain has fallen since last night across the headwaters of the Grand River. Water levels near Jackson have risen quickly today. The river is expected to be in minor flood stage through Sunday morning. Another round of heavy rainfall is possible tonight, and could cause further rises of the river.

This warning will be in effect until Sunday afternoon.

Westbound I-94 was closed for about an hour this morning at Elm and eastbound I-94 at M-106 was down to one lane due to water over the road.  All lanes are now open.

At 11:30 AM Saturday the stage was 13.3 feet.  Flood stage is 14.0 feet.  Minor Flooding is forecast.

The river is expected to rise above flood stage by Monday evening and continue to rise to near 14.2 feet by Tuesday evening. the river will fall below flood stage by Friday early afternoon.

Several rounds of rain will move through between tonight and Sunday morning. Some of these will include thunderstorms, and bring very heavy rainfall. Most of the area will likely see around an inch or rain, but locations that see repeating thunderstorms may end up with closer to 2 inches of rain. This is going to get the rivers rising back toward bankfull by later in the weekend and early next week. Whether any of the rivers get up to flood levels or not will depend completely on where the streaks of heaviest rainfall from the thunderstorms ends up.

If you live near a river, pay extra attention this weekend and prepare for the likelihood of rising river levels.
