For the upcoming holiday weekend, all I-94 project construction activities will be shutdown starting at 3:00 p.m. on July 3, 2019. All construction work will resume on July 8, 2019.

This upcoming week, traffic will be maintained on I-94 utilizing shoulder closures and reduced speed zones along I-94 between M-60 and Sargent Road. Cooper Street over I-94 remains closed until October and the eastbound I-94 Cooper Street on and off ramps remain closed until early-mid July. Eastbound I-94 Elm Ave. off-ramp will be closed until early-mid July. Westbound I-94 Cooper Street on and off ramps will remain closed until mid-November.

Last week, the contractor completed paving the hot mix asphalt interlayer for the new continuously reinforced concrete pavement. Additionally, the contractor continued reconstructing the existing median on I-94 from Sargent to Elm.

Work on the new Cooper Street bridge over I-94 will continue throughout the week. Additionally, crews will begin stripping the forms on the south roundabout planter wall this week.

This week, crews will continue reconstructing the Cooper street interchange. The contractor will continue placing conduit for the new roundabout lighting and placing concrete curb and gutter within the closure limits of the Cooper Street interchange. Additionally, the contractor will pour the new concrete eastbound I-94 on and off ramps for the Cooper Street interchange and begin placing steel reinforcement for the continuously reinforced concrete pavement on the new eastbound I-94 alignment.

When Cooper street reopens the interchange layout will be significantly different. The new interchange layout will consist of two new roundabouts. To provide more information on roundabouts a link to the Roundabout Information located on MDOT’s website will provide answers to questions about roundabouts and how to safely navigate one.
