The Michigan Department of Transportation is closing one lane in each direction of I-94 to allow crews to safely demolish the Cooper Street bridge. This work is part of the ongoing I-94 Corridor Project.

Starting Friday, eastbound I-94 traffic will be diverted off the freeway using the exit and entrance ramps at Cooper Street. Westbound I-94 will be closed intermittently over the weekend. Drivers should take the posted detour from Exit 142 (US-127) south to I-94 Business Loop (E. Michigan Avenue/Louis Glick Highway), west to US-127 Business Route (West Avenue), and back onto westbound I-94.  Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.

Closures will begin 8 p.m. Friday, April 12, with an estimated completion time of 6 a.m. on Monday, April 15.

The new Cooper Street bridge will be a part of the rebuilt and redesigned I-94/Cooper Street interchange that will include new roundabouts on each side of the bridge. These roundabouts will allow traffic to operate more smoothly and efficiently and increase safety with fewer serious injury crashes. For more information about roundabouts, go to www.Michigan.gov/Roundabouts.
