(November 17, 2020 12:32 PM) This morning, Executive Director Tim DeWitt and the Board of Governors announced the formation of  Jackson Catholic Schools as the first Catholic school system of its kind in the Diocese of Lansing.  In a press release, the new organization was announced as the joining together the family of four Jackson area Catholic schools,  as they continue to lead through faith-based education with the highest academic standards, doing good work in the name of Christ. The four schools are Lumen Christi Catholic School, Queen of the Miraculous Medal School, St. John School and St. Mary Star of the Sea School.

For  families of the four schools,  this change creates many benefits, including: standardized curriculum which allows for a seamless transition from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade, comprehensive communication and outreach to  students and families, operational efficiencies which mean more resources directly benefitting students, and increased investment into their high-quality teaching models.

The formation of the Jackson Catholic Schools creates a new organizational structure with an Executive Director leading all four schools. Tim Dewitt accepted this position and began work in September 2020. “This is my opportunity to answer the call. To do not only important work, but necessary work. I come to the Jackson Catholic Schools with a humble heart but also a resolve to fulfill its mission, to make true disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ,” said DeWitt, a Lumen Christi graduate and lifelong member of the Jackson Catholic community. DeWitt added, “From our grade schools to Lumen Christi I am fortunate to be in the company of great leaders who work tirelessly to move Catholic education in Jackson forward. With Jesus Christ at our center, we will win the day.”

Forming the Jackson Catholic Schools was one of the top priorities that developed out of the Strategic Growth Plan, which began in 2017 under the leadership of  Elaine Crosby, former President of Lumen Christi Catholic School. Through a strong collaboration between the pastors, principals, board members, and the Diocese of Lansing, the vision of one system, four schools, was set forth.  Crosby is “delighted that we have come to this point in our community.” She goes on to say, “Under the leadership of newly appointed Executive Director Mr. Tim DeWitt and the Board of Governors, the future of the Jackson Catholic Schools is bright.”

The press release stated, “Formally combining our schools will allow us to further develop our students both in and out of the classroom as disciples of Christ. Parents will have the opportunity to be more engaged in their children’s education and more connected to our Catholic community. This unity will allow our Church, schools, and parishes to grow together resulting in a closer Catholic family here in Jackson. As we continue to honor and build upon our traditions, we stay true to our Core Values: Live Faith; Achieve Excellence; Develop Character; Be Warm and Welcoming; Promote Teamwork. “
