(April 28, 2023 9:41 AM ET) Jackson College announced four Jackson College students have been named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Michigan Academic Team.  Winners were recognized at a recent lunch ceremony in Lansing hosted by Michigan Community College Association and PTK member institutions.

Jackson College students recognized include:

Jenifer LaHuis, student since 2021 and member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. With a passion for helping people, LaHuis has focused her studies in allied health with the academic goal to achieve a degree in sonography. She returned to college after a 30-year break through the Michigan Futures for Frontliners program, which she says allowed her to gain the confidence she needed to prove to herself that she can do whatever it takes to accomplish her goals.

Tera Faber began her studies at Jackson College as a dual-enrolled high school student and enrolled full-time in 2020. She played soccer during her first year while taking prerequisites to apply to the nursing program. By the end of the soccer season, she was nominated as captain, Most Valuable Player, and received awards for Honorable Mention All-Conference and Second-Team All-Region. She is currently finishing her third semester of the nursing program and when she’s not at school or attending clinicals, works on campus in the Jets Store. She plans to become a registered nurse and join the workforce, transfer to a university to attain her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and ultimately become a nurse practitioner.  Faber was also named a 2023 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar and will receive a $1,250 scholarship.

Lexie Anderson is in her first semester of the nursing program at Jackson College and aspires to become an emergency room nurse. She recently became a medical assistant which gives her great experience in the medical field. She plans to continue her studies to work toward a bachelor’s degree in nursing and shared that she is truly blessed to have this opportunity to make a difference in other’s lives.
