(March 26, 2025 10:06 AM ET) A Spring Kickoff Event is planned by People for the Parks and Trails on Saturday, March 29, 10:30 a.m. at the Boos Recreation Center in Loomis Park.
This will be an opportunity for interested volunteers to learn more about the group and how to get involved in upcoming spring projects. The non-profit will also use the event for their Annual Meeting, which will involve the confirmation of the board and discussion about volunteer projects.
Founded in 2021, People for the Parks and Trails (also called PPT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving City of Jackson parks and trails through volunteer projects, fundraising, and advocacy. 2024 was a busy year for People for the Parks, with the group holding four volunteer events that cleaned up one cemetery and all of Jackson’s 28 public parks! PPT collaborated with Experience Jackson to donate a new bike repair station for Griffin Park along the MLK Equality Trail. During the holiday season, the group installed lights in two neighborhood parks to bring holiday cheer to the community.
PPT President and Co-Founder Aaron Dimick says the group is excited for the 2025 season. “It’s been very inspiring to see residents come together to care for Jackson’s public spaces,” Dimick said. “We want to keep the positive momentum going this year and welcome everyone to be a part of our growing group.”
Volunteer projects are open to anyone who wants to participate. You do not need to be a City of Jackson or Jackson County resident. The volunteer season takes place April through November, with volunteer projects often taking place monthly on Saturday mornings.
The Boos Center is located at 210 Gilbert St. Residents wanting to get involved with volunteer projects can submit an interest form through PPT’s website, peoplefortheparks.org. Donations are also accepted through the website to support volunteer work. The group is active on Facebook and Instagram.
