Last year: 9-1 overall
The Jonesville High School varsity team finished a perfect 9-0 during the regular season in 2021.
A district loss to Michigan Center left a bad taste in their mouths.
The Comets want more in 2022.
Jonesville dominated teams in Big Eight Conference action a year ago, giving up only 35 points in six conference games and averaging more than 50 points per game offensively.
“Our skill players (on offense) all return this season and have plenty of experience,” Coach Frank Keller said.
Key returnees include all-state quarterback Cowen Keller, Brady Wright (receiver/defensive back), Dominic Aponte (running back/defensive back), Tyler Scholfield (receiver/defensive end), Chandler Griffith (lineman), and Braeden Trine (end/linebacker).
“The worst part about last year was we were inches away from winning (the district game),” player Cowen Keller said.
Juniors Austin Bowers (fullback/linebacker) and Brady Staton (lineman) are two players the Comets will depend on this season.
The Comets expect 28 players on the varsity team and 22 at the junior varsity level.
Jonesville returns eight players on the offensive side of the football and seven on defense.
The Comets have earned a playoff spot the last three years and have combined to win 22 games during that stretch.
That is the best three-year stretch in school history.
