(August 10, 2020 4:53 PM) The Jackson Symphony Orchestra announced today the cancellation of the 2020 Summer Pops Concert scheduled for August 28.  In a statement, the JSO said, “Following state recommendations to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, and out of concern for the well-being of our musicians, staff, and audience members, we have regretfully decided to cancel our Summer Pops concert, scheduled for August 28, 2020.  Although the concert was scheduled to be at an outdoor venue, we could not safely have our musicians gather to rehearse before the concert in our inside venue.”

The concert, planned for CP Federal City Square at Horace Blackman Park, was to be held in conjunction with the Downtown Development Authority August Cruise In Car Show.  The DDA has not yet made a decision on whether to cancel the August and September car shows, but will make a determination at its monthly board meeting this Thursday morning.  The DDA had previously cancelled the May, June and July summer events, including the monthly Cruise In.
