Baseball Regionals
D-3 Lumen Christi 5, Lansing Catholic 0: The Titans won the regional title thanks to timely hitting and solid pitching by Gabe King. King struck out nine batters and scattered three hits in six innings pitched. Paul Sadler and Brodie Gregory each finished with one hit and two RBIs for the Titans. Lumen Christi advanced to the quarterfinals Saturday at Rockford High School against the winner of the Clare/G.R. Northpointe regional at 3 p.m.
Baseball Quarterfinal
Lumen Christi 10, Clare 1: The Titans advanced to the Division 3 semifinal round with the victory. Lumen Christi scored three runs in the top of the first inning and added six more in its last two at bats. Gabe King finished with three hits and two RBIs and Benny Gaston added two hits and three RBIs for Lumen Christi (29-10). Timmy Crowley pitched five innings giving up only two hits and striking out six batters. Lumen Christi advances to play Charlevoix at Michigan State University Thursday at 9 a.m. on of the D-3 semifinals.
Softball Regionals
D-3 Buchanan 1, Hanover-Horton 0: The Comets fell short in a pitcher’s duel ag Constantine High School. Halle Swihart finished with two of the Comets’ four hits in the contest. Alexyn DuBois struck out 14 of the 22 batters she faced for HHHS. Hanover-Horton finishes the season with a 30-11 record. The regional semifinal lasted only 65 minutes thanks to solid pitching by DuBois and Hailee Kara of Buchanan.
D-3 Reading 14, East Jackson 1: Addison Hendricks finished with two of the Trojans’ four hits on the day and McKenna Worthing knocked in the only run. East Jackson finishes the season with a 6-29 record.
Golf State Finals
Northwest at D-2 State Golf Finals: Northwest High School finished 13th with a two day total of 651 at the Division 2 state finals at Forest Akers West Golf Course. Cody Rowe earned a top-10 medal with a two day total of 146 – finishing sixth overall. J.J. Miller shot an 80 and Ryan Stevens an 82 on Saturday.
D-3 Golf Finals at Ferris State University: Lumen Christi finished second to Traverse City St. Francis in the team competition at FSU Saturday. The Titans shot a two-day total of 658. Lumen Christi was led by senior Charlie Saunders with a 162 total – good for 16th place overall. Hoyt Wrona of Hanover-Horton placed 12th with a two-day total of 160 missing a top-10 medal by one stroke.
Jackson Christian at D-4 Golf final at GVSU: Jackson Christian finished 15th as a team with a two-day total of 751 at the Meadows Golf Course near the campus of Grand Valley State University. Nate Locke of JCHS finished 46th overall with a total of 182.
