(April 10, 2020 10:27 PM) The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 7:15 PM Friday, there are 338 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at thirteen facilities throughout the state.  Of that statewide total, 159 of the confirmed positive cases are at Jackson facilities.

The MDOC says there have been 7 COVID-19 deaths among prisoners in the prison system, 3 at Parnall Correctional Facility. 2 at Lakeland Correctional Facility, 1 at Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility and 1 at Detroit Reentry Center.  A total of 2 staff have died after contracting coronavirus, both employees at the Lahser Probation Office in Detroit. 

In Jackson, there are 144 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at Parnall Correctional Facility, 17 at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 6 at Duane Waters Health Center and 6 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility.

There are 29 MDOC facilities in Michigan, 15 facilities have no positive COVID-19 cases.  A total of 549 prisoners have been tested statewide as of last night.  179 of those tested were negative and results are pending on 12 cases.

Among staff, there are a total of 151 COVID-19 positive cases at 15 facilities.   In Jackson, there are 58 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases among employees at Parnall Correctional Facility, 1 at Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 3 at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 1 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility and 2 at Jackson Central Warehouse.

The Michigan Department of Corrections has been added as a separate jurisdiction under the “Other” category in the daily MDHHS report of positive cases in the state. All other cases are reported by county.  MDOC prisoner cases are not included in the county cumulative numbers or in the numbers reported by the Jackson County Health Department.
