(April 15, 2020 7:57 PM) The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 7:30 PM Wednesday, there are 481 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at facilities throughout the state.  Of that statewide total, 221 of the confirmed positive cases are at Jackson facilities.

The MDOC is sad to report there have been a total of 13 deaths of prisoners who had tested positive for COVID-19.  The death of a prisoner who had been housed at Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center and a prisoner at Lakeland Correctional Facility were reported on April 15. 

In Jackson, there are 162 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at Parnall Correctional Facility, 22 at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 18 at Duane Waters Health Center and 19 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility.

Among staff, there are a total of 71 COVID-19 positive cases statewide.   In Jackson, there are 63 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases among employees at Parnall Correctional Facility, 1 at Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 3 at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 1 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility and 3 at Jackson Regional Warehouse.

The Michigan Department of Corrections has been added as a separate jurisdiction under the “Other” category in the daily MDHHS report of positive cases in the state. All other cases are reported by county.  MDOC prisoner cases are not included in the county cumulative numbers or in the numbers reported by the Jackson County Health Department.
