The Michigan Department of Transportation has scheduled two public meetings to discuss proposed reconstruction of M-60 in Spring Arbor and the ongoing I-94 reconstruction project.

MDOT will hold a public meeting regarding the continued improvements on 9 miles of I-94 in Jackson from M-60 to Sargent Road. Major construction will begin in March and end in November.

During this open house-style meeting, there will be brief presentations at 2 and 6 p.m., followed by question and answer sessions. The public will be able to meet with MDOT staff and ask questions about the construction project. Residents and stakeholders also will have an opportunity to discuss any potential impacts from the project.

MDOT is continuing  I-94 construction between M-60 and Sargent Road through the winter. Major work is expected to start in March and end in November. MDOT is also planning construction on the M-60 bridge over I-94 in 2020. In 2021, MDOT will replace the Lansing Avenue bridge over I-94 and complete reconstruction of the I-94/Elm Road interchange. Conceptual planning of the I-94/West Avenue interchange is being discussed for future work.

As part of the project, I-94 will be shifted approximately 60 feet south of its current location. The widening of Cooper Street and the bridge reconstruction over the Grand River will require right-of-way acquisition, primarily on the south side of I-94.

The I-94 project is 23% complete according to MDOT.

The I-94 meeting will be held at Blackman Township Hall, 1990 W. Parnall Road, on  Monday, Feb. 25 from 1:30 – 7 p.m.

Regarding the M-60 project, MDOT and Spring Arbor Township invite the public to attend a public open house to discuss the proposed reconstruction of M-60 from Chapel Road to east of Dearing Road in Spring Arbor Township.

The public will be able to meet with MDOT staff and Spring Arbor Township officials and ask questions about the construction project. Residents and stakeholders also will have an opportunity to discuss any potential impacts from the project.

Proposed work includes expanding M-60 to a three-lane roadway between Chapel Road and Dearing Road, adding a new storm sewer, and a new section of water main. Construction is expected to begin in April.

The M-60 meeting will be Wednesday, February 27 at Spring Arbor Senior Center, 122 Star Road, Spring Arbor from 2 to 7 PM.
