(April 5, 2020 8:41 PM) The Jackson County Department of Transportation has announced the new Michigan Avenue Bridge in Parma will begin on Monday, April 6.  JCDOT says the special permits and approvals from Amtrak have been obtained allowing the project to proceed.

The project will replace the existing bridge with a prestressed concrete beam bridge on Michigan Avenue over Amtrak Railroad and Railroad Street.

Michigan Avenue will be closed to through traffic at the bridge for the duration of this project with completion anticipated in late fall of 2020. Local traffic access for residents will be maintained during the project. The posted detour route will be along North Parma Road and I-94.

This project is made possible in large part by a grant from the Local Bridge Program as administered by the Michigan Department of Transportation, in combination with matching funds from JCDOT as approved by the County Board of Commissioners.

The contractor for this project is Davis Construction, Inc., which is headquartered in Lansing, Michigan. Davis Construction, Inc., was the lowest bidder among MDOT qualified bidders at a cost of $2,757,258. Brechting Bridge & Engineering, Inc., from Spring Lake, Michigan, was the engineering design firm for this project. The total cost is expected to be just over $3 million which includes engineering design, construction inspection, and permitting fees.
