(April 12, 2020 3:55 PM)  Michigan reported 645* coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 26,638.

The State of Michigan is reporting 95 COVID-19-related deaths today, bringing the state total to 1,487.

State Cumulative Total of Recovered COVID-19 Cases (as of 4/10/2020): 433.

The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12 PM today, there are 169 positive cases (cumulative), and 4 deaths (cumulative).

The Michigan Department of Corrections reports there are 193 COVID-19 positive cases among prisoners in Jackson MDOC facilities as of 10:15 PM, April 12.

Henry Ford Allegiance Health reports that as of 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 46 individuals being treated in their acute care hospital have tested positive for COVID-19; an additional ten inpatient individuals have pending test results. To date, a total of 17 positive COVID-19 HFAH inpatients have been treated and discharged.

From MDHHS:

Beginning  April 10, 2020, MDHHS staff will review death certificate data maintained in Vital Records reporting systems, weekly. Records that identify COVID-19 infection as a contributing factor to death are compared against all laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS). If a death certificate is matched to a confirmed COVID-19 case, the MDSS record is updated to indicate the death and the appropriate local health department is notified. These matched deaths will be included with mortality information posted to the Michigan Coronavirus website. Today’s data includes 30 additional deaths identified through this methodology.

This information is updated daily at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.

*Although a reduced number of COVID-19 cases are being reported today, 645 cases compared to 1,392 reported on April 11, and deaths, 95 compared to 111 on April 11, we cannot say if this represents a true decline in COVID-19 cases and deaths in our state.

Reported case counts may reflect a reduction in the amount of laboratory testing performed over the weekend and holiday. Single day fluctuations in the number of confirmed cases may not be significant, as a number of external factors can affect data reporting.

Although there is a limited amount of data to compare, previous testing reports have illustrated consistent Sunday decreases with some being as high as a 25 percent reduction over the previous day. Sunday, March 22 had a 25 percent drop in reported tests. Sunday, March 29 saw a 3 percent drop in reported tests. Sunday, April 5 saw a 25 percent drop in reported tests.

Please note that these represent the date that the laboratory sent the information, not the date of onset of symptoms for the cases which would precede this date and is collected during the public health response to these referrals.

Cumulative Total of Recovered COVID-19 Cases (as of 4/10/2020): 433
Note on recovery: During this response, MDHHS is reviewing vital records statistics to identify any laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases who are 30 days out from their onset of illness to represent recovery status. As the pandemic continues to impact Michigan, this pool will expand to include more cases. Recovered is defined as the number of persons with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis who are alive 30 days post-onset (or referral date if onset is not available).  The number of persons recovered on April 10th, 2020 represents COVID-19 confirmed individuals with an onset date on or prior to March 11th, 2020. These numbers will be updated every Saturday.
